I used Slysoft CloneCD as well as Alcohol120% to write and backup an ISO of Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix for PS2. However, when I get to the main "Press Start" screen, nothing happens when I hit start. I hear a snippet of music, but nothing else.

My PS2 is quite old and has recently been serviced to try lengthen the life of the laser, but all my other games are working fine. I used Verbatim -R.

Any suggestions?

Hmm, you have a newish laser, you use pretty good media and use -R so those arn't the problems.

I'd place my bets on that the .iso file you got being good (I've never made a bad rip of a game, since it's so easy to rip ps2 games).

The game boots correctly until the start menu then errors right when you start a game (playing an intro movie) [thinking out loud]

Was the copy of the harry potter game you got a full ps2dvd or was it a ps2 cd rip with the movies down sampled? (Since you burned it on a dvd-r it's probably full rip but I'll ask anyway)

Otherwise, maybe try looking at the comments section of the place you downloaded the game from and see if other people are complaining (and hope it got ripped wrong)

Or compare the filesize of the HP game you downloaded to other places that have it and see if there are any differences.

Rented it from a video store, original.

Only things that will give you a chance of getting better performance:

Burn as slow as possible (1x-4x, trial and error, w/e works best)
Get better discs (verbatim are great discs though)
Clean your lens (with rubbing alcohol)
Replace lens

Good luck
