The most skillful I ever heard was from the Extreme 2 Album (Get The Funk Out and More Than Words were on it but I can't remember the title). I THINK the guys name was Nuno Beckencourt, and he did a guitar solo of Beethoven's Flight of the Bumble Bee. Has to be heard to be believed- I estimate the guys fingers must have had to pass through themselves at least 6 times to pull it off. :sorcerer:

Yep, that's great !

BTW: isn't the Flight of the BumbleBee a Rimskij-Korsakov's composition ?

Check out Nuno's Midnight Express and Hip Today from Waiting for the Punchline

Well I'm not gonna argue cos it's opinion but the only reason I said that is because, Slash's was nearly twice as long, faster cleaner phrasing using scales rather than tapping :D
No disrespect to Eddie at all, cos he is a god :D And Eruption was amazing, but Eddie did utilise his 2 hand tapping and delay fx for that tune to make it sound faster than is really is, Very clever none the less B)

No! That's my point!
Slash rarly used tapping, he played individual note phrases, each note is clean :D

Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with tapping and fx....I use them myself frequently, but out of the two, Paradise city is harder to play, cos I can play Eruption (pretty much) but I have to improvise on PC cos I'm just not that quick :( :D

Agreed. I read about that, but a musician I know working for an italian magazine ( Axe ) had an interview many years ago and he wrote that Eddie replicated Eruption in front of him <UNPLUGGED> !

I didn't misunderstand Celebs, just meant I wanted to listen to it to appreciate the playing.

Yes well like I said Eddie is a god!

He also reinvented guitar playing, but it would have been impossible to replicate acuratly without a delay, Sorry! He could have played it close, but if you had a recording of both you would see what I mean :)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not being funny I'm just stating fact :)

BTW, do you 2 guys play?? :)

Ahh sorry, I misundestood ! :(
I thought only to the linear composition/performance, not to the effects, etc..
Yep, I absolutely agree: without the proper effects it is impossible to replicate Eruption correctly.

BTW, do you 2 guys play?? :)

What do you mean with "2 guys". Jonno ?
I have a Studio and many musicians are here often...do you know other people from here writing in this forum ?

ADDENDUM: Now I have understood, sorry..
You are talking about AlanPartridge & me...1+1=2...also in Italy
...I'm a stupid

By the way: yes, I play drums, guitar and bass

That Nuno Bettencourt Bumblebee is the intro to Extreme - Pornograffitti - He Man Woman Hater song he used delay effect, around 220 millisecond and only one delay,
same principal as David Gilmour did on the Pink Floyd - Wall - Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1 intro (around 420 milliseconds with about 3 audible delays),
and Eddie on the song Van Halen - Diver Down - Cathedral again around 400 milliseconds but only 1 audible delay.
However, in Eruption Eddie was using Roland tape delay, not much effect but in the end on the final dive with whammy he does crank the delay up. Main effect in Eruption was MXR-Phase 90, as in most of the solos on that album, a bit like flanger but only cooler ;). So, in Eruption what you hear is what was played.
I've seen John Petrucci playing Bumble bee Live and he wasnt using any delay on it, just extremely fast picking  , it sounds grazy if you can pull chromatic scales using metronome and ckicking over 200. I have that mp3 on my shares (SS), check it out.
its in # STASH 3 # misc. single mp3z\Miscellaneous mp3's, bootlegs, not full albums, etc\Dream Theater\Dream Theater - Misc,
filename is: [Dream Theater] Flight of the Bumblebee (John Petrucci live solo).mp3

As for the Best Solo, there is a bit too many good solos, cant decide.
How about:
Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force - Rising Force - 02 - Far Beyond the Sun -1984
, it will require a bit more time than Eruption to master
or Alcatrazz - Disturbing the Peace - 08 - Lighter Shade of Green [instrumental] - 1985 (Steve Vai) ?
Serioulsy, there is too many cool solos to pick. :)

Cheers:

Eddie van Halen in the michael jackson song... Beat it..!

Great ! Forgot about that one  ...One of the best solos ever: it breaks the song in a perfect way...

Also Weird Al Yankovic's version ( Eat it ) is nice :P...and Rick Derringer played an amazing solo

I remeber that! :D

What about Mark Knopfler's Sultans of Swing? :)
The entire song is filled with clever little licks and fills, but the 2nd solo is magic and considering he played it all finger style makes the speed sections even more impressive :D
