he has no router . where should he forward ports? on your router ?

:frusty:

ashwa , if your max download speed is 256 kbps, it means that your max download speed is 256/8=32 kByte/s .
as for lights, if you are not connectable, it is red , if you aren't connected to remote users, it is something like yellow . otherwise it is green .
try to open a torrent that has many seeders and many leechers, and wait about 30 minutes . i'm sure that the flag will turn to green .

Put uTorrent and its port in your firewall's exception list...

And in uTorrent - it doesn't turn green right away... With me, that light turns yellow first then it gradually turns green.

I'm not sure how, because I don't use ZoneAlarm Firewall... Try checking out its settings...

Did you test it by turning the firewall off for a few minutes ?See if it turns green.Zonealarm some times can give you a few connection problems in some bittorent pograms

close your firewall...
whay you need the zonealarm anyway???
are you using both firewalls zonealarm and win XP???
because that's realy make things hard for your computer.
and for the speed.... as fatma said the max download speed is 256/8 what makes it 30 more or less

Yah allow incoming/outcoming traffic in the firewall..What firewall are you using?

mhm.. this problem is similar with problem for me.. you should see which your ports are open.. you can see it there: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 if your ports all closed you should ask to you internet owner that he must open port which you choose.. if this find some ports open just write open to utorrent and check if it is open.. if yes then don't care about red color..

you sure you are supposed to have higher speeds? 256kb/s equals ~30KB/s
maybe you are confusing kilobits and kilobytes.
Most internet isp mesure speeds in kilobits, and most applications (utorrent) measure in kilobytes. Using this logic, you are getting the speeds you payed for.

I am really not seeing an issue here, you are already maxing out your download speeds, maybe you should check to see if you are also maxing out your upload speed because really in the torrent world, that is the most important.

I suspect your problem is Zone Alarm. It's not a bad firewall but it's notorious for conflicting with P2P programs. I found it didn't work for me as it caused too many problems so I switched to Sygate and haven't looked back.

Having said that I'm sure there's heaps of people who use ZA and are perfectly happy. I know my freind uses it and uTorrent and he doesn't have any issues.

Good Luck :)

i am using zonealarm.

i am having 256kbps(kilo byte per second) n i am getting 30 kilo byte per second....is this the max speed i will get?

k thank for the site, will try it.

anyone else with any advice, plssss, i'll be greatful to u..pls

i.e 25KB/s connection n getting 3KB/s dowload speed

unless you are completely sure of your connection....256kb/s = 256 kilo bit per second, not 256 kilo byte per second

ie. 8Mb/s downstream and 768kb/s upstream, those numbers are in bits, not bytes, you must divide both of those numbers by 8 (8 bits in 1 byte), which gives you 1 MB/s downstream and 96 kB/s upstream

so what im trying to say is that it sounds like you are getting the speeds you are supposed to be getting, but were misled by the lowercase b and capital B

if you really want good fw so i think you should try outpost fw.. but i think your speed is correct and you have what you should have with this connection..

Put uTorrent and its port in your firewall's exception list...No need since he's set MaCrappy to let µtorrent do whatever it likes.

...cant it work without turning of the firewall?Yes but if you turn off the firewall and your speeds increase then you'll know that's the problem and you can then either track down the problem in ZA or change to another firewall.

ZoneAlarm Firewall dont use that use xp firewall and u safe lool
way betta firewall well frm me
Bad advice. Please don't do that again.

Get a router. I don't bother with software firewalls. They are so agressive and slow traffic a lot and many times can be a pain to configure certain programs with them.

I just have the XP firewall enabled and my router firewall and that's all I need.

pls.

all i did for mine (using utorrent) is tell it to allow the program to access the internet, and i was done..... (and i accomplished this by first installing the firewall, then starting utorrent and a screen popped up and asked me if i wanted to allow it access, i chose yes....done)

ashwa (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/members/ashwa-174303).....READ! http://www.bootstrike.com/Articles/BitTorrentGuide/index.html

Important>>> you must download the Patched TCPIP.sys file..this will allow you to make more connections thus a Higher speed (u will prob get speeds of 150-180 on a decently seeded torrent) than u are getting at the mo...

hope it helped

thanks for all ur inputs n ur efforts to solve my problem...very happy to inform that the problem is solved in a way..

i mean i have configured utorrent to full speed irrespestive of the yellow light turning green.

one of my frend provided me with a link for patching tcpip.sys...well could open the related link...but that page was worth it.

here is its link. http://www.bootstrike.com/Articles/BitTorrentGuide/index.html

well i found another rocking piece of software that helps u patch tcpip.sys n open the connection to max..

here is its link...reading both topic up above one n this one will help u configure utorrent to max.

here is the 2nd link http://sharethefiles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33860

download the xp-antispy software recommended in that site.

i here close this thread.

thanks all.
