Look at the moving silhouette, she constantly turns while you watch, but avert your eyes slightly and she will change direction

warning
Don’t distress yourself if you don’t see the effect described, even if trying carefully. For many illusions, there is a small percentage of people with perfectly normal vision who just don’t see it, for reasons unknown.

Nice one Alien...try looking away then looking back at the spot where she changes directions each time and you can make it so she never turns all the way around.

I finally got it to work and now I can't get her to go back the other way.

I tried looking away completely....closing my eyes....etc.

I didn't see it at first but while reading the disclaimer I noticed out of the corner of my eye she was turning to the left.

From what I see, the image is not spinning. It's in 2D.

I can perceive it as her never going past a revolution if I want to.

She "spins" one way then "spins" the other way, over and over.

This works with many cuz they are perceiving a 2D image as being in 3D.

If you look at it as a 2D image you'll see what I'm talking about.

If you have trouble, stare straight at it, blink 4 times (averting your eyes to your brain) while imagining her go the other way.

She will constantly change direction.

Again though, if you think of it as a 2D image, you can do it without blinking.

You will see the image as her swinging her foot like a pendulum versus going around.

It would take a woman to do something so nonsensical :)

Why the hell would you avert your eyes, you mentals?

Barbarossa

Well I've been staring at this all morning * and she hasn't changed direction once :dabs:

EDIT: So yeah, I know how it's supposed to work, silhouettes are amibiguous in that they can often be back or front views, but I can't seem to make my brain accept that it could be going the other way round. :idunno:

I can see that if I stare at something below the gif.

Oh, I see it. If you imagine that it's going the other way, it will. I'm trying to open it up in Photoshop, but the frames aren't loading.

You have to use imageready.
Photoshop can't do animated gifs.

As far as I know, Photoshop CS3 doesn't come with ImageReady. They have an Animation palate instead.

Thats some freaky stuff right there.

At first I thought it was timed to turn the other way, but I see that is not the case, after reading all these posts.

I guess I need to practice my mental perception a little more.

I tried saving the gif, but it doesn't rotate as fast when opening it on my computer. weird. opened it in windows picture & fax viewer, IE, firefox. the same on all of them. I can get her to rotate now without hurting my brain. haha

It worked for me when I looked just a bit beyond the bottom of the image (center bottom), when the image was in my peripheral vision I could see it.

thanks for sharing. that's pretty cool!
