I've known they have existed and have even used them in the past - but not for anything big.

I've recently started using them more often and I have to say that I like it.

Any tips, sites to visit, etc would be great.

(newzleech.com,< my fav) binsearch make your nzbs! or use a newsclient( newsclients, alt.binz, newsleecher, grabit, i use alt.binz at the mo, i did use grabit for years.
