I just wanna make sure that is his fault. First to go was bit-HDTV than others. If anyone can confirm it in any other way you are welcome.

I saw the list and what amazed me was that a lot of users prefer the: "123456" or "123123" passwd and they probably use the same passwd and username on all their trackers! :O :frusty:

Are you one of them? :ermm:

Some people use even the same passwd as their username! :O:blink::w00t::shutup::huh::slap::yikes::fear2::wank:

This is what I would call a strong passwd:
uii.ljk((L09^90@#$!9-90=cfxtd4esM<MIhk9y8/./.kl][

I wonder how many of us use strong and different passwds, different usernames or, even more, different registered emails on every tracker we are registered...

How many of us reset our torrent passkey when a tracker is hacked? :ermm:

SAM

is not that easy to make such strong password you provide znik
and it isn't that easy to remember it
many of us have many trackers if you make one pass for every tracker you won't remember all of them for sure

1delboy

Didn`t know this could even happen...
Still changing passwords...
Thanks...

znik

you don't have to remember them Sam.
Just keep the passwds passwd-protected in a file within a USB stick that will be accessed only when needed by you.

Doesnt matter how strong your password is when the sites are getting hacked or have info leaked every other week. Apparently the best thing is to have different PWs for every site, what a pain in the azz that is. The admins apparently cant be trusted so I guess thats what im gonna have to do.

There was a leak of the passwds and usernames of the BitHDTV tracker's userbase.
An FST member used these passwds to take control of other accounts on other trackers with the same username and passwd .
He gave away some of those accounts to some giveaways and the original account holders took control over them once again, when they understood that someone hacked their accounts.

That's why we are talking here. NEVER use the same passwds and account names on all your trackers!
I am sure a lot more users are in danger and have lost their accounts on various trackers because of that incident

i suggest everyone go get AIRoboform. It will remember your passwords.

It has an option of generating any password with A-Z a-z 0-9 and autosaving at signup.

The less people see the list, the better. Then again, some people have no idea whether they are in the list or not - Just change your pass everywhere if you are registered in Bit-HDTV.

A great way to generate passwords is using a DiceWare Passphrase (http://world.std.com/~reinhold/diceware.html). It uses simple principles to generate superstrong passwords that are easy to remember and impossible to break. Of course, if the database is stolen, there isn't much you can do :/

¿Why this sites don't encrypt their databases?

I wonder how much time does it take to run a bruteforce attack against top sites using this list. Good thing some of them use captcha image to make such attacks hard or impossible.

yes your name is listed. Change your password on all your sites....remember to use a different pass for each site so this does not happen again
