Basically when you buy the game you need to go online to activate it , not that I mind paying for a game as good as this but for those of you waiting for the pc warez version , may be in for a long wait.

I beleave I have found a way around this annoyance. not so much of a crack, more of a trick. all you need is a proxy server program, another computer and a switch/hub/router (way to network the two computers.
msg me if you want the scoop.

It's not a major problem though and someone has already figured a work-around. I imagine 2K will fix this issue in the patch.

You can now install it 5x now with the new patch and 2k games said that you can only install it two times if you didn't uninstall it on your other machine.

It's still a fucked up situation. Does nothing to stop the pirates and only hurts those who actually purchased the game.

That is fucked up.

I also doubt that it is stated on the box that only 2 installs (2 PC)are allowed.

Customers should be allowed to return software unless the license (like "Only for 2 PCs") is clearly stated.

It looks like I'll be getting the game today.

Had some validation issues, then re-checked the game files and it started downloading again at 80% complete, then another update, to DX9 tonight via Steam as well.... but anyway it's working now, and I must say it's worth it....

Bit of a creep fest... but that's the way I like 'em!

I'm glad I read this. I have a copy sitting up at Circuit City right now on hold, but I'm gonna wait for a bit longer on a crack. Looks like they're getting close.

Notice what's happening here? Their anti-piracy steps have encouraged me to pirate a game I was fixing to buy.

Isn't it wonderful the way they take your money and then treat you like criminals?

The wonders of anti-piracy. :dabs:

Uh??

I haven't downloaded a PC game in a while but since when do PC games not get cracked before official release? Or the same day?

I'm surprised to tell you the tuth. A few days after release and this game is not cracked yet? Whatever happened to the old days when games would be released before they hit the stores all cracked. Is this normal or this game just uses some crazy activation method?

I think the last game I downloaded was the Transformers game and before that I had not downloaded a major PC game in probably over a year. I'm surprised that this game is not cracked yet though.

It's also interesting how there used to be so many movie releases a while ago and now the only thing released are very crappy CAM releases for the first 2 weeks or so. I guess the best pirate warez groups have been put behind jails already.

I can think of 2 games right now that were also a royal pain in the ass to crack! King Kong and Suffering 2 Ties That Bind. Both use starforce! I think I may just get the xbox version so I don't have to worry about how many times I can install it and rootkits and shit like that! But the price is fucking atrocious!!

Buy the new games at a cheap price and share the old games, thats my thing. I dont think new games should cost 50 or 60 dollars tho, which is why when i buy new games , i buy them at 30 or 40 dollars.

About trying to get around the anti piracy system, well as i said go out and support the new games and share the old ones. If bioshock is at a 50 or 60 dollar price tag, i would suggest you wait it or download a version, and buy it when the price drops.

Stick your multi player up your jaxi tbh.

I don't buy many games, but I'm glad I bought this one, as it's worth every penny, - for the obvious hard work and dedication that the dev team has put into it I'm quite happy to pay for such a good game.

Me too, well in the end, after they started sorting out the securom fiasco. I bought a copy for my brother as well but his graphics card doesn't have SM 3.0 :pinch:

As to multi-player . . .ugh. Adds nothing to most games in my opinion, in fact it probably subtracts from the single-player game because the devs have to spend time on the mp portion.

A co-op multiplayer mode would be damn decent in games like this though.

It's now 5 installs, and you are not limited to that 5. It can only be installed on 5 computers at once. By using the uninstaller the game connects to the 2k servers and unregisters the computer with the game, meaning you can then go and install it on another computer.

The only way you will 'lose' an install credit is if you are forced to format your computer before you can run the uninstaller.

Still it's a crap method but not quite as bad as people are making out, plus 2k have said they will be releasing a patch once the buzz of the game dies down to make the number of installs unlimited.

Actually that's pretty fair. The average joe doesn't even own or install a game 5 computers in a lifetime.

With 5 installs now + unlimited later, 2K is showing they clearly just wanna combat piracy without being a dick about it and stepping on the rights of lawful owners of the game.

Good job, I say.

Found the original article;

Ken Levine, Lead Designer for BioShock, has revealed that the game’s copy protection will be removed at some point in the future.

“We will unset the online activation at some point in the future – we’re not talking about when,” said Levine, in an interview with Joystiq. “This activation is for the early period of the game when it’s really hot and there are people really trying to find ways to play the game without buying it.”

Later in the interview, he admitted that 2K had made a mistake with the number of installations allowed and that the number of installs will be increased. “Basically the copy protection, everything about how it works is exactly what you'll see in other titles like Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Command & Conquer 3, and Harry Potter.

“The only thing we have is online activation now. But that just does a check with a server and validates the installation. Right now we have a set number of installs and, frankly, it’s too low. We screwed up. We analysed where we were and we’ll up the number of installs.”

He understands gamers’ frustrations when they were unable to activate their legitimate copies of the game. “People can't activate their key, I dig that people are pissed off, and I understand it. Here we are day one of the European launch and day four of the American and we're working every single day working on these issues. I believe people deserve to play the game.”

Levine also acknowledged that there were concerns about the anti-piracy measures 2K Games had taken, but reassured gamers that “there’s nothing wacky going on there, at some point we’ll move back from online activation. If people want to play BioShock ten years from now, they’ll be able to play it. We have a commitment from 2K that that is going to happen and we'll hold them to that commitment and they're serious about it, we'll make that happen.”

I still don't like the idea but a company has to try and protect their asset, especially as it's cost 2k so much to make. At least they have realized they made a mistake with the 2 installs and upped it to 5 and let us know it will be going after a while.

Some games have had major flaws and just been left to die (the PC version of Enter The Matrix and most EA games come to mind) without the needed fixes.

I won't be buying the game, but I doubt I'll be downloading it either as I can't see my machine running it. Maybe when I get my new laptop I'll download it and see what the hype is about but until 2 or 3 weeks ago I had no idea this game was even in production so I'm not massively desperate to play it, yet.
