i am still confused why you haven't tried to get them back, i am sure if you jumped on irc and told them the deal they would give them back to you.

I didn't have BitHDTV account, so I didn't lost anything.
And on my important trackers I have different passwords, so even if I would have had Bit-HDTV, wouldn't had lost anything important :) (yeah, my english grammar sux :pinch:)

hasn't affected me at all as I wasn't on the list, though even if I was I would have been ok because I use different passwords. Sorry for your loss m8 some lessons hurt more than others.

personally I never use the same passwd on any tracker or forum.
I never use the same passwd on my email.
I almost never use the same username on my trackers.

I use insane passwds that it are impossible to be predicted.

Yes, I was also in the BitHDTV list, but my username there was unique and never used anywhere else.
Needless to say I lost none of my accounts.

Wasn't a member there. It's a good idea to use a different password on every tracker.
I most certainly wouldn't register on that tracker again. Same goes for tb btw.

just a warning, a lot of trackers have given warning to all of their users to change their password because of the bit-hdtv leak; some trackers might be unforgiving if you lost your account because of that leak

yes but a lot of members are on vacation these days th0r and may have not logged in their accounts for the last couple of weeks.

They have no idea what happened.

Man, this was a big wake up call for me.

I, like many others, was only using one password for all my sites. I didn't get burnt this time since I wasn't a member of bitHDTV (luckily) but it shocked me into action. I've since changed all my accounts to unique passwords. I urge anyone who hasn't yet to do so. These sites are getting hacked all the time, better to be safe than sorry.

c'mon thor the first i knew about the leak and prob the same for many others, was when some wankers here, were giving away accounts, and that was hours before i saw it on any of my trackers.
i'm sure if you could prove you were the original owner they would have no worries giving the account back.

SAM
08-20-2007, 04:20 AM
and how you can prove that?
the one who hacked your account will change the password the email address and reset the passkey
now what you have left is the user name and the ratio and if you don't have someone to confirm you are the owner no one will believe you

th0r
08-20-2007, 04:44 AM
thank you sam, that was my point all along

and by the way, who really has 10 bit-hdtv accounts?

necromantic
08-20-2007, 04:47 AM
Well, the most obvious place to look is the ip. If you were using the same ip for a month then the ip, email, passkey were all changed. You go on the site and say your account was stolen. Your username/password were also on the bitHDTV list. If you still have the original ip chances are very good you will get your account back.

The key is that you must have been on the list and you must have lost your account just after the list went public. Admins and staff are mostly smart guys, give them a little credit.

it would also help if you still had the account registry confirmation e-mail, too

Green Goblin

i still find it hard to believe that you would just let your accounts go that easy. there are a lot of ways to prove your account was stolen and you were the original owner ffs.
ip, email, password being on that list is a sure fire way to get your account back.

necromantic your one smart cookie.:D

I'd also put some other options.
"I was affected, but took precautionary measures in time"
"I was affected, but have different passwords on the respective sites"

i would but i cant figure out how to edit the damn poll. i shouldve thought about the options first though.

gotten all but czone and pt back. so i guess it wasnt really that bad. but it still sucks. has been a real eye opener for me though. from now on ill be using min 30 charecter randomly generated passes.

Just use different passwords, that's enough even if they are weak.

DV8type
08-22-2007, 12:14 AM
Affected, yes. but not bcuz my account was stolen. There have been many 'hijacked' account which takes a bit to sort thru.

Edit:
The list:

Out of curiosity DV8 are you skeptical when people come running about their account being stolen off the list? and whats the ratio of scammers to people who have genuinely had their account nicked?

feel free to ignore the question if you feel your answer will giveaway too much or cause to much hassle with people asking for accounts.

DV8type
08-22-2007, 03:22 AM
Well that all depends on if i know the user or not. We have the full list so with a quick cross reference on a few things we can tell if an account has been hijacked. But it really depends on how much time we have. Unfortunately, many users will be disabled permanently, in the end your account is your responsibility.

@dv8 fair enough, I feel sorry for those sad trusting souls that used the same passwords it's got to hurt to lose any accounts, and a few people lost them all and their email :pinch:

@scribble, first this (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-bittorrent-43/t-omg-hdbits-has-been-hacked-213599) happened then this (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-bittorrent-43/t-bithdtv-failure-219451/?highlight=bithdtv)
