Yes I know that, but what makes it a must have forum, why is it so popular apart from it being hard to get into..?

the fact that it is hard to get into is the only reason why it is so popular; it does not take a lot of commitment to be a part of a great community, which is the problem with revolt getting mentioned in this discussion

i joined back in late 2004 when invites were thriving and practically nobody here knew about it; then again, i did not have an account here, i guess back then it was easier to join
