okay, to put it simply, with a standard cd-rw drive, if you DOWNLOAD a file you can burn it onto a cd-r or a cd-rw with your cd-rw drive. You can do this in a ways that they can be played on most dvd players (vcd & svcd format). You cannot rip (copy onto your hard drive)a dvd with your cd-rw drive. You cannot burn (copy to) a dvd with your cd-rw drive. There is no software that can change these facts. That is the limitation of drive. Now if your cd-rw drive can read dvd's as well then you will be able to rip dvds but still not burn them. Get it.
