View Full Version : Are People Getting Dumber?

It's easy to hack a computer, if you know the IP address... And with everyone on the web today like p2p, IPs are broadcast faster than the Matrix 2 DVD rips. Why, with that information, are there so many idiots out there who leave port 80 opened on their machines? Personally, I prefer to leave port 80 opened, but I also have my system programmed so that people connecting to me get a funny message, and that's it. Also, if someone cracks my computer, there's nothing on it. I keep everything on CDs.
So, maybe I don't care if someone hacks me, but I know people with a lot of sensitive data, no firewalls, and a static IP (probably dialup)
I think people are getting dumber...

I agree with what your saying man --- I also do what u do i never have any thing on the computer ( well nothing of any real use 2 any 1 else ) i keep the majority of my stuff on CD's if sum 1 wants 2 hack my machine and view my MetroStar's pictures their more than welcome...

i think you've just got a lot of people new to the net who are not aware oof such problems. I'm new to it and i dont know what port 80 is , but i;m gonna bloody find out now. more and more people have comps these days but they use them for fun applications or some sort of hobby. it doesnt cross their minds about nutters on the net. :)

I don't have anything important or personal on my computer, yeah it would be a bit of a bitch if someone deleted everything but nothing a few hours fixing couldn't sort. And anyway, I have all my music/progs backed up on disc. Personally, it wouldn't bother me THAT much as in about 2 hours I could have my comp back to normal.

If you leave your port 80 open and even if it's rigged that just might even attrack
real hackers ,better go for invisible mode and if you don't use instant messaging
programs you can turn of IP-broadcast.

And yes ppl are getting dumber ,I always doubt myself...... :(

Even though I'm pretty damn good (I have netBIOS commands and ports memorized), I still get worried every time I view the net, because someone is always better than you. Personally, even with everything I know, I admit *blush* that even I like to use script kiddie tools. The difference being that I know what I'm doing, and I see no point in hacking someone's computer.
I will say this though:
With 90% of America's home-based users using Windows, and a majority of them using Windows XP, its no wonder hacking is on the rise... People don't realize that by buying a Windows machine, they are pretty much opening up their doors and letting in everyone.

Also, as a final point, I may as well comment on the ease of finding hacking tools. It used to be tricky, you'd need to have a good idea of whether the netBIOS port was opened on an IP, and then you'd have to do all sorts of stuff to it. Now people can open up a port scanner, find a range of ports, open up an smb scanner, and be done with it...

well thanks for letting any unresponsible viewers know that, excuse me while i just go and turn my modem off :)

A real life example perhaps?
I just took five minutes and hacked somebodies computer... Only their shares of course, but other stuff is pretty easy also.
Of course, I am a good programmer, with a heavy knowledge of a lot of stuff, so I differ from the average script kiddie. And by the way, I have no intention of doing any malicious stuff, I just wanted to prove my point.

That's good enough for me... And no, I have no intention of starting a hacking school. I hate goddamn script kiddies, they cause a great deal of damage. But, hey, porn is nice... If you'd be nice enough to open up port 139 and post your IPs, I'd be glad to remove some of it for you :)

I think it's silly if you don't have a firewall operating on your system.
A few friends of mind have had bad probs, Thats why i don't use msn messenger.
And yes it's very easy to hack into any computer.
We all use the internet for different reasons, But mine is not hacking.

why not use messenger baz?! i havnt had one problem with it !!

besides, those geeky hackers have bigger fish to go for that waste their already valuable (im sure!) time hacking some normal persons computer with all the same sh*t on it, mp3's, movies, blah blah blah, and as everyone has said here almost everyone has it backed up on cd anyway.

i dont use a firewall at all.

zonealarm plain annoyed the tits off me!

God bless you crazy billy bats. Although script kiddies do popup daily, and are foiled by hackers, experienced guys like me can easily bust most firewalls. Hell, right now I'm connected to some idiots C drive (who the hell is stupid enough to share their entire drive?) just as an example of stupidity.
Let me point out the difference between a real hacker (me) and a script kiddie. I could right now put a program in this guys startup directory (which no one looks at) and execute trojans, etc. But why bother? I don't have any problems with this guy, he hasn't insulted me in any way. I'll just take a look around, I won't look at his personal stuff, and I'll leave.
Script kiddies would have already planted five trojans... Five viruses... and then left.
Also, this way his door is always opened ;)

The two people i know that have had problems use msn, I am not saying that it will happen to every body, It's just the right time right place scenario!

Which is available at any b&q store.

MSN causes the same issues as any other IM prog. You chat with someone, scan for foreign IPs, and connect to them. Easy to do, if you've studied this stuff.

port 80 is WEB and port 139 is netbios.

Hmm... doesn't run a firewall... uses MSN... must rename him Crazy Silly Bats!

Here's a tip: Google for the words "MSN messenger security flaw" ;)

No-one is safe... WeeMouse's computer once got hacked through MSN... I had to clean up 4 virus-ridden computers after that...

Lamsey there you go again with the security flaws of msn messenger. If you read the articles posted in google those flaws apply to a version of the messenger already outdated by nearly a year. There are no flaws now unless there is serious hacking involved and like we all know they don't need msn messenger to get in.

mmm, sounds interesting...

Do you mean the firewall is poorly configured? Or do you mean a vulnerability specific to a certain version of firewall? Or are you talking about spoofing your address to be 127.0.0.1 and hacking 'blind' so to speak?

I've always thought a well configured firewall thats not vulnerable to a specific exploit would be pretty damn hard to "bust". How do you do it and how do you secure yourself against that technique?

http://www.pcpitstop.com

These two site are good at checking your computer's security. The sygate scan website will scan your ports.

The only thing i've ever gotten from msn was the whitehouse virus thing. Where the people who are infected send a picture to you without knowing (which is the virus). Puts your name at @whitehouse.com or @billclinton.com. and makes you flood with smileys and such. Put was easy to get rid off. All i had to do was uninstall msn and reinstall it.

http://www.angryziber.com/ipscan/

its very simple to use for all u newbies in port scanning and stuff jus read and check if u have any open ports

http://www.angryziber.com/ipscan/ipscan.gif

Short description

Angry IP scanner is a very fast IP scanner for Windows. It can scan IPs in any range, even 1.1.1.1 to 255.255.255.255. Its binary file size is very small compared to other IP scanners. I've seen good, fast and small TCP port scanners, but not IP scanners (and not freeware). Angry IP scanner simply pings each IP address to check if it's alive, then optionally it is resolving hostname and tries to connect at specified in Options dialog box TCP port.

It also has additional features, like NetBIOS information (computer name, workgroup name, currently logged in user and MAC address), results saving to CSV, TXT, HTML or XML file, can be used as a command-line utility in a batch file, etc.

It is using separate threads for each scanned address to increase scanning speed.

It is free, so use it at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything you do using this program.

Angry IP Scanner is an open source program

ph33r not B) In Sygate there is an option to counteract IP spoofing amongst other things. And hacking blind like that would be a pretty demanding feat anyway.

By PM only - not on the actual board.
