My girlfriends birthday is coming up and I need some ideas to consider. Also I want to know if this is right?

If you named a star after them for a gift. Does that only qualify for valentines day or is birthdays ok for things like that?

Any other ideas you guys have tried and worked you can mention here.

for my girlfriends last birthday, i got her a stuffed bear (i know, its cliche), a "promise ring" and i wrote her a poem. she liked the poem the best

if we knew some things she liked, it may be a little easier, unless one of the ladies here answer, then you've got a sure thing

as for the star thing, i have no idea...

Knowing her age (roughly if you don't want to specify) would probably help?

One bit of advice I could give you is that always appears that the most embarrasing things to buy or do are the most appreciated  Also personal touches and thinking about places or things you passed and she has said 'I've never had/done/been there' and remembering them at a later stage go down well. :)

Oh btw I am currently single so I might be wrong one to answer your question as my advice obviously hasn't done me much good

I disagree. I'm certain giving her a basket of "feminine hygiene" products would not go over well. ;)

  Cheers for that ZC

I say, write her a song, then sing it, preferably while playing an instrument :) Or sing her a song already exsists! Then take her for a candle lit dinner or better still (if you can cook) cook her a candle lit dinner, and buy her something you know she wants :)

well i wouldnt do the whole star naming thing........bit too cheesy for my liking and its been done by several american teens in tv programs and movies so thats enough for me thanks !!!!

i would say just take her somewhere away from where u live, a couple of days away in a nice wee B&B......to somewhere where there is something to do, and.....well, go and do sh*t !!!!!!

Find something she's never done before and would never even consider doing. But at the same time, something you know would be fun.
Plan it so that whatever the activity is, the location is private.....at night perhaps.....maybe only the slightest chance of an unexpected interruption. And finally, the most important element of the whole scenario........do it in the buff !

Trust me....not too many things in life will bring her joy than the memory of the both of you naked as jaybirds, playing midnight tennis with your bits bouncing in the breeze ! :D

i hunted everywhere for stuff my boyfriends birthday. he lurves dukes of hazzard so i got him signed pics, cars, nodding dolls n a load of other crap. i wrote him a poem, made him a special dinner and other unmentionables. he was soooo happy! :)
imagine how i felt when he got me a huge singing and dancing james brown, a "nikita" biking top, and a night at the pub for my birthday. tried to look impressed but thought, "what an eejit". no imagination at all. (for valentines day, i got a cd rewriter. how romantic, eh? ;) )

it only take a bit of effort to make someone happy. one of my ex's found a pretty shell, painted it and scratched our intials on it, and came round with the birthday card sellotaped on his tummy. :) its the simple things i like, but if the b/f gets me a "mini" this year, i wont say no.

i would love him to write me a song, but it would probably go;
"beer, beer, beer,
how i love my beer...zzzz"

seriously, something from the heart and not the pocket. ;)

my friend took his girlfriend away to Paris, France for their 1 year anniversary, but kept it a surprise til the night before, and had secretly arranged with her boss to get her the weekend off work. It wasn't all that expensive, and she got to see her family who have moved back there for a few years while her dad works there.

Romantic, plus you get a wee break away from it all yourself aswell, so it's a win-win situation. she was very happy.

I don't know where you stay, but a romantic trip away would be a good idea.

i'd still go for the Paris thing. it's a bit cliched, but it's still a guaranteed panty-dropper :o ........:P

Really though, it's a romantic city, there are others, but because it's just a jump across the water (if you live in the UK) it's affordable. You can fly over quite cheap.
And if it all goes t*ts up and you have a major fallout, there are plenty of sex shops to buy yourself a few videos to keep yourself occupied while she's on the plane home lol.

She's 17 years old and she'll be 18 august 28. I start planning really early because holidays with her, i usually make really big. Last valentines day i got her a blow up bear that had a machine running under it to keep it blown up and it was as tall as me and i'm 6'3. Then I got about 600 balloons and had them blown up. The room was filled with balloons and i got her a promise ring and attached it to one of the balloons and i said. "I got you a present... Now find it." I attached it to one of the balloons. I also got her a card with a poem in it.

I can't sing her a song because i suck at singing. I could probably write one though i dont know if i would want to do that. A candle lit dinner is not good enough. I'm wanting something bigger. I'm also looking for something bigger than breakfast in bed. I got to beat what i did for her last valentines which is above. The things she likes the most is harry potter, Disney, and tinkerbell. She does like books though. She has tons of books, but i'm not just gonna get her books for her birthday.

Going to Paris for her birthday is a little much. I'll be saving that for future references. As to cruises and stuff. We're still too young for that. Flowers, the gift and dinner isn't enought. That's expected. More something along the line of a room filled with flowers. I need something big, but also not very expensive. I'll probably spend somewhere along the line of about 200 to 250 in american dollars. Which is good considering I'm 17 i'll be 18 in july and i have no job at the moment. I was thinking of using the star for future references also, and also i didn't know if that was proper for a birthday instead of valentines day.

I've been there three times, trust me don't go there! Nice museums, historical places... But the romantic side of Paris is really overrated.
@Celebs: none taken... People from Paris really are smegheads!

The romantic side of Venice is overrated too! Don't go to a so-called romantic place... You don't need to: romance is a state of mind, not a place!

I have been to Paris, and Spain, but i'd still go for Paris, although admittedly it is quite a dirty place. Remember this is only for the weekend, if i went to Spain for the weekend i wouldn't be able to force myself to come back from that lovely weather after just 2 or 3 days > i live in scotland, so i'm no stranger to rain.

Plus it has the reputation of being a romantic place, so it adds to the effect. It's like a magic trick, all about misdirection, one minute your up the Eiffel Tower marvelling at the view, the next you're in a nice restaurant for a meal, and *whoosh :sorcerer:* like magic you're back at the hotel for some major hot lovin' :"> :w00t: o:)

the best reaction you can get is when you do it out of the blue, not near an annivesary or birthday......altho of course they are very important :D :D

lets just say you may reap the benefits as it were if you produce something nice from nowhere - why does it need to be valentines day or a birthday to treat your girl like that ?!

altho of course money dont grow on dog's !!

valentines day is the biggest overrated, commercial piece of crap in the year....well, then theres lots more too, but no need to go into that, dont want another hijacking on our hands !!

Actually AT dmorgan89:
If you're looking for something bigger, do the whole candlelit dinner and flowers (Roses if you're a classic romantic, orchids or the like if you're more of a modern-day romancer) along with a small-medium gift (i.e. a book or many books by her favorite author or a reasonable facsimile)
Then, later on, act all shocked and say: "Oh! I have anothe little thing I got you, just a sec.." Then you run out of the room (thus building the tension) and return with a small box containing whichever piece of jewelery you think she'd like most (if it were my girl, I'd go for 1/4-1/2 carat (total) diamond earrings set in white gold)

It'll totally blow her out of the water (at least I think it should......)

Either way, do what YOU think is the best idea.
If at any point you have serious doubts (not the usual: "Oh! I hope she likes it...")
rethink the idea; ask her best friend, or her mom or older siblings (younger ones usually aren't any help at all...Trust me!!)

Whatever happens, if your love is true (as it seems to be) she'll adore whatever you get her, even if you give it to her in a brown paper bag! (but Don't!!)

Cheers,

- Loomy

Depends on how old you are. If you can afford it - JEWELRY!!!
You can never go wrong with a necklace, ear rings or even a ring ( tough one though) A ring can get you into big trouble. :D
