I am new to this whole d/ling movies thing. I would like to know what are the steps to take for getting a movie I can watch on my DVD player at home.

What types of files are best to d/l (avi or mpeg or anything else) how do I get them onto a CD (I dont have a DVD-r) and then how do I get them to work on my DVD player at home.

I know this may have been asked several times but help me to get it finally. I have tried several things but seem to have problems everytime.

I have NERO 5.5.10.42 and TMPGenc Plus with a CD-R and a DVD on my computer. It is a 1.2GHZ with 85GB HD and 512 MB Ram.

Thanks for all your help guys.

go to doom9 (http://www.doom9.org/) for some guides on making vcd files.

if you download vcd (mpeg1) files then you won't have to convert them before you burn them, however, they are usually quite a bit larger than avi files (which need to be converted).
the trade-off is basically can you afford to download double the data or would it be quicker to re-encode the avi which will take half the time to download.

go to fasttrackmovies and find the film (the link is on the start page of k-lite).
when finished downloading, make saure you can watch and hear allright.
if not, download the k-lite codec pack which can be found here (http://k-lite.tk/) and install.
if all ok, go into nero (i use nero express, but never mind). choose your film from my shared folder and burn. make sure file fits on the disk (715,000 kilobytes WILL fit on a 700 megabyte disc).
make sure you burn it as A VCD DISC< OTHERWISE< U CANT WATCH IT ON THE DVD.
then, when finished, put in the DVD, press 1 on the buttons (cos theres 1 track on the disc).

and now for the last step:

hope this helped,
