i hear things about Grabit ... is this Grabit thing free and if so is a better then Newzbin?

Ditto. Alt.binz is much more comfortable to use and since I've come to use that application I don't have any completion problems anymore, unlike GrabIt which sometimes fucked up.

If you are just downloading via NZB's, Newsbin Pro is the best imo for low resources and ease of use. If you want the option of viewing threaders and downloading via nzb, go for Newsleecher! (Just recommendations on my part).

Hi guys , I am using alt.binz and I like it a lot, but I use it using the nzb .

What client I should use , if I would like to search manually through the newsgroups ??
Will I find older stuff in comparison with nzb ??
Is it more difficault to use headers search and what are if there are , advantages ??
thank u

I've been using Newsleecher for quite a while but I guess I'll give alt.binz a go since quite a few people here recommend it. I've tried Grabit but I didn't like it at all.

Newsleecher FTW. The interface is superior to the other programs IMO.

I have always used NewzBin Pro for my favourite groups, download the headers on a regular basis and then browse the groups to see what is in there, not everything is reported.

I use Newsleecher & supersearch for searching for anything I am looking for and places like torrentleech gives me the filename I can use if it is a specific release I am aiming at and with a 200 day retention to search these days, most things are found with ease.

i think NewzBin is the best for download, its search capability is probably not the best, but decent.

Fact is if you can get nzb files elsewhere so don't need its search function at all.

Newsleecher. Tried all the known or less known clients and it uses the least resources, is the easiest to control and, well, looks good :-D
Getting about 6.5 Megabytes per second with 20 connections on a X2 3800+ and only Newsleecher is able to handle that without sending my whole system to hell.

Grabit - No SSL feature
Alt.Binz - SSL feature is available but cannot download headers only. Most useful with NZB only

What's wrong with alt.binz' internal search system? It does provide you with several news indexing sites and lets you search on your newsserver directly too (which admittedly takes some time).

Is that Xpat search?

Daniel

Yes. First you mark the group and then you can start the search. It's a good idea to start with filenames or parts of it and it shows you before your download if parts are missing on your server.

I hardly ever use that feature though because I haven't had problems with my downloads in forever and there's always the auto-par feature of alt.binz. Setup correctly, .par2 files are paused when an nzb is added (external or internal) and only downloaded if the additional parts are needed.

Newsbin Pro is the best application for usenet by far. Newsleecher is a very close second. I say that due to the licensing issue with Newsleecher. I want to pay a one time fee for an application. Supersearch is the only thing Newsleecher has over Newsbin, and I would use nzb search engines or indexing sites anyway.

Alt.Binz search system is adequate for my purposes. I am looking for something that is as user friendly as possible without me having to go to a dozen nzb search sites.

I usually use binsearch or NZBindex (within Alt.Binz) and type away the keywords like : lord rings. I customized it to reflect 250 results per page and 99 days (my ISP gives about 100+ days of binary retention).

newsleecher is cute, but also very buggy and heavy and supersearch doesnt work properly so i switch to newsbin entirely.
