i used to be a faithful music buyer, until i got a computer about 5 years ago.

even after i had my pc i still bought cd's , but about 3 years ago i had 2 200 pack cd wallets in the back floorboard of my car and someone broke into my car and stole em all......

and ever since then i just decided that fuc that !! i will never buy music again so next time if some jack@ss decides to steal my stuff i will only be out some cdr's that i can replace with my 1500+ songs collection anytime i want :D

anyway , just my 2 cents....

I do, mainly if it's stuff which is too hard to find on kazaa though or if it is on a small independant label. Oh and of course vinyl :D

Yes I do. I don't actually have any "full albums" downloaded, because I own them already.

I used to. Now after this little stunt the RIAA is pulling, I guarantee I'll never buy a cd again.

i still buy music on vinyl records (LPs and 45s), but only rarely buy CDs. the price of a CD vs its sound quality just doesn't seem like a fair deal.

maybe if DVD audio (padded with extras like music videos, musician interviews, etc) were cheap, i'd consider investing in that. but spending $15+ on a CD isn't something i'm eager to do anymore.

To be honest my buying-spree is a lot less than my donwloading-spree. Of course I'm only downloading to make copys for personal use as I already own the original.
That goes for my son and daughter too (8 and 10 years old so their music taste changes by the minute  ). That's what you get with kids watching MTV, TMF and VH1.
But I recently bought, fair and square, The Chameleons live 2-cd (via an internet music store).

but only when its at the prices i like. £8 i believe is more then enough for a cd anything more and its time for soulseek. :D

Truthfully,
I used to run out to buy cd if i liked a soundtrack from a movie i just saw or listened to a song on the radio and loved it or heard it somewhere else, and usually it was for maybe 1-3 songs that were good on the whole cd.
Now?
Never again since i heard of music sharing! Just download and burn. :)
Hey, i didn't create the music industry's downfall.
The people as a whole have spoken.
Sooner or later they will listen.

I was buying my CDs from various places (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.), however, since the RIAA has gotten nastier and nastier with the intimidation of music lovers, I have not and will not buy anything. I have suggested to people (online and off) to do the same.

I only buy music from good bands, not bands that are gonna be popular for six months (ex. Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and all the other pop music crap). Though my only two music CD's are from NIRVANA. lol

I buy occasionally. Haven't bought since I started using Kazaa.
I've been around for about six months, just now got to these forums.
A friend told me about them and I'm happy I did.
I'm beginning to believe I should show this to Mom and possibly quell her paranoia about this whole RIAA "crackdown"

I buy a lot of albums, usually at least one a week. I would buy more if i had a proper job. And I rip them all onto my pc and share them. i enjoy collecting CDs and I think that it's nicer to hold the Cd in your hand and be able to look through the liner notes and the case.

I use to buy used and "discounted new" cds fairly often (at really good prices), that is, until a few people decided to boycott and told me not to buy any cds made by companies who are in cahoots with the RIAA.

So I won't buy for the time being.

You all never wondered yourself..?

If no one bought cd's, there will be less music been recorded and soon you all will only be able to download "oldies". It is good to support artists you love.

i still buy a big amount of cd's and loads of DVD's atm. If i really like it i buy.
Same goes for software if i really use it, i buy it!
i mainly use soulseek to get music i don't know yet, or to replace a scratchy old LP with a nice digital rip.

i have a pretty big collection cd's & dvd's, and yes i ripped a lot of those to...
Only real thing that bothers me is that cd's are way to expensive. And for dvd's they are to expensive seen the amount of times you will watch a DVD.
I hope the movie industry soon will start to add soundtracks to the movie DVD.
That way it would be far more attractive to buy DVD's.......

screw riaa, and about not any more new music cuz of file sharing, untrue.
The artist will just have to get paid less. Like they really need millions.
i wouldn't mind if artist and singers start getting paid only 30$ hour. hahahhhahahahahh

Listen RIAA FUCK YOU!

it's not that the artists get less, it is that comapanies won't make the cd's cause they get less.

The big hits they have now, pay the launch for many young new artists..
I think there is some truth in that.

Btw don't forget not all artists are madonna or eminem, there are a lot that just have luck once, with one single.... For those it is hard to see only 1 miljon copies sold.
While 10 miljon have that single...

Luca_Snipes

I still buy a lot of CD's, DVD's etc. If i like the album/film etc it WILL be bought on CD, like JetJe - I use downloading music to find new bands and styles of music that I may like - i make use of the community in soulseek for recomendations etc.

If the RIAA or someone had a service like soulseek, and i had to pay - i would pay. Why - because I want the music industry to continue to make music.

If no-one bought CD's - they would not make CD's - the CD's would then not be online for people to download - therefor no new music - stop being stupid and support the artist and the producers and the people at the mixing desks and the techy's that set up the studios

The big hits they have now, pay the launch for many young new artists..
yes - that's the way it works - the music company uses the cash it makes from the big hits to bring us new bands and talent

Alot of people in the stock market lost alot of money. I know some people that lost over $50,000 on 9-11. But everything is getting a little better. The Stock Market is getting higher and soon Bill Gates will own half the money in the country lol.

but we really have to raise some questions. Are we all really not spending money because we hate the riaa or do we just not want to spend money. I mean, it sounds great and all, but even if cd prices were lowered to 5 dollars or they were available for 25 cents each of the artist's website, would there still be filesharing?

I actually bought a Madonna, American life cd awhile back. I bought it because the songs that i downloaded from that album were fakes or incompletes. I was shocked at the sticker price. It came to about $21.00 after taxes. The album wound up sucking except for the song american life. I felt cheated. I wish people would test the music they download and delete it if its fake. Sometimes the file is hard to delete. In this case press f8 to go to safe mode when you are starting your pc. Then just highlight the fake or incomplete song with windows explorer and delete. Peace out. Right now my chances of getting caught are 1 in 3,782,769. Thats how many users are on now. I like those odds.
