Programs, boot discs, methods, etc. Please post anything that will work. Oh and I have a compact PS1, so using something to hold the button in the back near the lid won't work (at least I didn't see one), because it's different (I think). Also, I have a ps2, so if you know how to get psx games to work on that, please also post. Thanks in advance. :)

Get a mod chip for your PS1. Then simply burn games onto CD-R's. Remember to use a slow speed for burning.

Is there a way to play copied games on the playstation without a chip?

yeah a BOOT disc, PS1 only, you'll have to search around to find it

Unless one of our fine, upstanding members has it :)

Just get a gameshark 2 cd. Then you can play any type of backup copy.

PS-X-Change 2 (http://www.psxdepot.com/psxchange2.htm)

It's a boot disc for PS that allows you to play imports and backups. More expensive than a mod-chip but a lot easier to use. The only thing that might get annoying is having to swap discs.

Not that I deny what you say, but have you used this disc?

Nope, I havn't tried PS-X-Change 2. I got all the information from that site. But it seems very promising... I'm thinking about buying it....

one thing to watch out for is multi-disc game support. games such as final fantasy VII and Legend of the Dragoon, that have more than one disc. some mod-chips or different methods of swapping, adding a chip, or whatever won't support that. look into support for that if there are any multi-disc games that you wish to play.

Also, I found that some cheap C.D.'s are unable to be read by my modded Sony PSone - sometimes I can get them to work, but other times nothing happens, or they pause, or I get a red screen reading 'Please insert original Playstation disc'

Yeah, playstation is nearly dead, but its games are much easier to download than ps2's.

I used to have a modded PSX, but then something happened where the controller wouldn't work if there was a memory card.

I don't have one legit black bottomed disc. They are all Blockbuster rentals that I burned.

PS2 Gameshark won't let you play burned PSX games.

I have ePSXe and I can play them on my PC, but since it's so fast (2.4 GHz), the games run really fast...also memory cards don't want to work

So anyway, that rules out PS2 Gameshark.

Also, I don't really think PSX boot discs work. I've seen a lot of them floating around and I even tried burning one...it loaded up in my MODDED PSX but not in a buddy's UNmodded PSX

Funny I was just about to post a topic on this.
Well my backups will play if I insert the original untill the black screen with the logo dissapears, then insert the backup. So this would leave me to believe that the PS-X-Change 2 will work and I plan on buying it this week. Problem about using a mod in a PSOne is that it is to involved considering the size, so the boot disc looks good to me.

Seems cheapest a HERE (http://store.yahoo.com/baysoftgames/psxchange1.html), HERE (http://www.modchip-sbox.com/ps-x-change.shtml) or HERE (http://www.psxdepot.com/psxchange2.htm). About $20 to $25 with shipping, I saw some above $40.

Also you can check out the instruction manual HERE. (http://www.consolesource.com/installation/ps-ex2-mod/install.htm).

If anyone has used this let us know, I will probably order mine tommorrow.

True, but the psx contained some brilliant games, the fact that its nearly dead is no reason to miss out on them ;)

I just purchased a modded playstation that works beautifully, except for one game that plays in black and white and flips. Thanks all for your help. My question for the people without mod chips to ScottBartlett is, "Does the ps-x-change 2 work with multi disced games?"

the reason the game is in black and white and "flips" is because it is a PAL game. All PAL games will do that on US and JP televisions.

Does anyone know of a place to download the boot disk PS-X-Change 2. It must be copied and put out on the net by now?? There are a huge amount of bogus boot disks out there so if someone that bought it can give me the stats on it (like the proper amount of megs used on disk) I can do a search myself. But if someone knows of a place to get it from(k-lite,bit torrent,e-mule) that would be awsome!! :beerchug:

I've heard that the PS-X-Change 2 Disc is specially pressed, so copies won't work. Also, I've tried to copy it and it did not work. So you'll just have to buy it, sorry.

I thought the idea was that it was a black bottom disc which is why you cannot just play any CDR, since PS games are black bottom as well. Thus the boot disk fakes the licence crap and loads up untill the PS logo goes black, then you can play anything.

Anyway, I got side tracked and am calling and odering now. Seems there is a good amount of stuff on News Groups to get.

You probably find that wasn't a proper Black-Bottomed disc. It's like true Gold-Bottomed discs are more expensive than Silver, but it is possiably for manufacturers to take a silver disc and make the plastic make it look as though it is gold so that it trickers the consumer, the same probably happened with you and your black-bottomed disc. I don't know how the Sony Playstation discs work, but I don't think your average person can buy one...

You're probably right, it's probably not completely like Sony's, but whether the disc has a true black bottom or not is probably not the reason cd-r's won't work without manipulation. To the best of my knowledge, cd-r's won't play on the playstation without manipulation because during the copying process some authenticating files are not copied.

Well I ordered the PS-X-CHANGE 2 yesterday, I'll let you know how it works. I must add after using different sofware like Nero, I have relized Alcohol 120% is the shit, blows nero away when it comes to stuff like this. I have not tried the new Nero 6 yet, but may check it out this week, though Alcohol 120% is a must get.

Playstation's website. They have a search engine where you can look up games by type. A lot of the games you look up have seperate links that point you to fansites of each game. You should be able to preview most games that way.

I thought you had to have an older PS for this, since the PSOne does not have rear port for it. Or is that where you simly do the "hot swap" deal, wait until the black PS Logo fades then swap.

I got another question REALITY, at the psxdepot site where you ordered from, it says this:

The PS-X-Change Version 2 allows you to store cheat codes similar to the Gameshark.
How does that work? Can you literally put gameshark cheats? Or different kinda cheats from some other site?

I noticed after the disc stops and ask for the import, if you press one of the other buttons, rather than start, a screen full of zeros comes up that you can change.
