just got my vps and it came with 2 ip address's.. its win2k3 server.
ive set up 2 utorrents running under different users
ive set the 2nd ip in net.bind_ip and net.outgoing_ip in advanced options on the 2nd utorrent instance but its still reporting the first IP when i download something.. testing the port fails and the ip shown on the page is still the first IP.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction here and tell me what im doing wrong..

ps. i also set the net.outgoing_port but still no luck.

thanks in advance.

I presume you are using RDC to log in as root admin on 1st IP?

Loris

correct

SgtMajor

Right, and you have created a user using the Manage options from the My Computer, and you now have a new user with a new password?

if you were on linux, that would be how to do it :

KFlint ive already said im on win2k3.
kaoblanco ive gone thru that thread so many times and did exactly as told but still only the first ip gets used

SgtMajor

Did you create the user & the password via the Manager options?

Loris
09-12-2007, 09:17 PM
SgtMajor yep.. their admins and im doing a Run As with them on seperate utorrents, one with /recover switch

SgtMajor

No, no, no.

Back to My Computer, back to Manage, back to Local Users & Groups, click on the users, right click on the user you created, click on properties, click member of, click add, click advanced, click on find now in the new window, select Remote Desktop Users - click ok, click ok again, click apply, click ok to close the window, close the management window.

You now need to reboot to make the changes effective.

Now, using your second IP and your new user & login, you can now create a second RDC connection, which you can now run utorrent from (do not run the utorrent from the admin dir, create a new utorrent occurrence) you can also run a new instance of firefox, and if you really wanted to, you can now share that second user with unique IP to anyone else anywhere in the world, not forgetting though you both share the resources of memory & hard disk.

If it doesn't make sense, follow it through and see where you get stuck.

I have set this up a few times myself now to, but the thing you need to check also is that the second IP address has been added to the network controller. Go to start/programs/accessories/communications choose network connections then right click on the network connection and choose properties from the context menu. Scroll down to internet protocol TCP/IP then choose properties, then advanced and add the additional IP address and use the same subnet mask to the network adaptor. Although you are provided with additional IP addresses, they may not be configured, with the network settings updated binding the IP in utorrents advanced settings should work.

If you had just kept it simple and used 1 IP for you as admin, and then the second IP for your new user, I might have been able to help, but why you are trying to bind 2 IPs to one utorrent for an ie.hosting Web 2K3 seedbox is beyond me.

1 x RDC for 1st IP for root admin
1 x RDC for second IP for your new user

Will give you 2 PC RDC windows on your desktop, much cleaner & works every time.

thats what im trying to do.. Im not trying to bind 2 ips..
i rdc on the 2nd user with the 2nd ip address but utorrent is still going through the 1st ip.. thats why im putting net.bind_ip and net.outgoing_ip as the 2nd ip but still no go...

SgtMajor

Install Utorrent (& firefox) again as user on 2nd IP in that users directory, do NOT try to use the admin utorrent.

Loris
09-13-2007, 09:16 PM
ok.. but why do i need firefox for may i ask? i dont do any browsing

also do i set all 3 values in advance options for the 2nd user?
net.bind_ip = 2nd ip
net.outgoing_ip = 2nd ip
net.outgoing port = utorrent port

SgtMajor

How are you going to get the torrents to seed on the 2nd IP if you don't, you need the torrent with 2nd users hash to use, however, that is not important.

I don't understand why you would be messing with binding, I've never needed to alter anything to run firefox & utorrent as second user on the box, I just installed utorrent (somehwere completely different from admin) and off I went.

Loris

well whats happening is on the 2nd user it is reporting back the 1st ip even though the 2nd user is using the 2nd ip to rdc.
we use webui to start torrents.. so we dont need a browser on the vps and if we do why cant we use IE?
We both belong to the same trackers, so we need different ip's..

SgtMajor

Are you sure you are actually using the second IP for the new user in the RDC connection?

Just double check the settings you are using, you can both be using the first IP if you are not careful, VPS will allow you do this.

It has worked first time for me on 3 different occasions, so there must be something that is not clicking in right on what you are doing.

Loris

i am positive im using the 2nd ip for the 2nd user when i rdc.

some very good info here :P

When I have configured the second instance of utorrent I have changed other settings than the bind IP settings as well ,normally I will change the port by one or two numbers that utorrent uses to listen on and changed the port for the webui to 8081 and also the torrent file storage for the separate instances of utorrent, this separates all the functions of the different copies of utorrent, this config I have setup and running right now on a friends vectoral Alterna server and my own Lin581 Hosting-ie server and both have two users running smoothely .

Here is what i did.. Logged in with rdc for first user , started utorrent and changed net bind ip to ip1 and kept file locations as normal, logged in again with rdc while the other was running and it creates a second user account. Installed utorrent in different file location with the /recover tag and net bind the second ip 2 it and set the default download / incomplete folders to something other than default. If you were to connect to remote desktop you could do it with either ip address as they are bound to the same physical card

Loris
09-14-2007, 10:56 PM
sharpz, so you only set net.bind_ip on both utorrents?
did you leave net.outgoing_ip and net.outgoing_port blank on both?

NisseArne
09-14-2007, 10:59 PM
No he set net.outgoing_ip also.. :P

Loris
09-14-2007, 11:29 PM
ok im gonna delete everything and start from scratch, ill see how i go

bloody hell still saying on the 2nd ip\user:
Checking port 43444 on 87.118.X.X... <=--- FIRST IP

Error! Port 43444 does not appear to be open

Im doing exactly as you guys are saying.. grr

SgtMajor

Sorry - not ignoring you, but I can't help any more for the way you want to set it up with webgui, I use it in a completely different way, which works for me.

Loris
09-15-2007, 01:52 AM
webui has nothing to do with it.. i just want utorrent to report my second ip to the tracker instead of the first

NisseArne

Btw if you bind it successful in utorrent it doesn't mean that firefox use the same ip for port-test...

Nope, sure doesn't. Thew me for a loop for a bit when I first worked this out.

But, and while I'm not trying to slant SgtMajor or his help at all, the link I posted was precisely what I needed to get four separate instances of utorrent going on four different IPs.

No, the latter three wouldn't work with the utorrent Port Test checker as it'd be hitting the IP of the first instance (the "main" one and that which FF was running "on"), but just setting the vxnet0 Network Connection properties TCP/IP properties IP address to whichever IP would allow the check in FF (although that's a bit of overkill considering all the ports all wide open anyway, barring blockage by the windows FW).

Loris
09-15-2007, 08:20 AM
so your saying i should get this error on the 2nd instance\ip?

kaoblanco

Yes, if you're using the utorrent "Test if..." button from instance #2 on second IP.

You'll find that the IP you're trying to use in utorrent #2 isn't the one displayed in the screenshot, but rather the IP of utorrent #1, right?

Loris
09-15-2007, 12:50 PM
correct.. thats what had me thinking this whole time it wasnt working..
wish i had known this 2pages ago lol..
i thought utorrent was trying to pass the binded ip to the port check page, obviously not.
