you changed "pronounces it" to "pronounces zimbabwe" just to stop me posting ans saying that surely they would pronounce "it" as "it".

well, i've got to tell you, it never stopped me

made me look slightly insane, maybe, but didn't stop me :P

There is no English word that rhymes with orange. ;) There's also no English word that rhymes with purple or silver. There's others, too; I've heard of pint and month not having any rhyming partners.

Read this somewhere:

The latest snag in the Ulster peace negotiations is the indignation of Protestant negotiators that the preponderance of good sectarian songs is on the Catholic side because there are no rhymes for "Orange". A senior official of the Ulster Defence Association is demanding that "silver", another colour with no exact rhyme in English, be declared by law to be a rhyme for Örange", and that ridicule of the use of it as such be forbidden as a breach of the peace.

That's because people pronounce "pint" incorrectly, pint obviously rhymes with mint, hint, lint, skint, etc.

That came about when people realised that the earth was not at the center of the universe, that there are no witches. But I am still not convinced the world is not flat. (except of course where there are mountains)

LISTEN UP:

Flange does NOT rhyme with Orange! Why? Because "flange" is one syllable. Orange is two. Plus flange is pronounced like - "Flahnge"

Orange is pronounced like - "Orihnge"

But, as someone earlier said: "Words that ryhme with ORANGE?
challenge, lozenge, scavenge."

Thats technically correct, challenge is pronounced like - "Challihnge" and scavenge like - "scavihnge"

So they rhyme, as said alone. IN a sentence, song, poem, they wouldnt

the '--ple' in a word doesnt mean it rhymes. it must have both syllables in my opinion.

however, i do think that flange rhymes with orange....well to an extent (if you say it slowly)
