i have blown untold numbers of speakers.

my love for the low stuff has kinda been responsible for this. car, home and cinema systems have all fallen.

remember no speakers are prodigy proof. :D

wat type of system does everyone have??

i have

3x 16 inch spl x subs (new ones) 600 watt rms each
4 x 500 watt speakers rms each

but having that much amount of watt isnt exactly brilliant

sometimes all u can hear is the massive amount of bass, like the ones in really good modded up cars "fast n furious style" plus they smell bad when there blown

I used to work for a pro audio company doing live sound. At one gig, while doing monitors for a rap act, I managed to blow up the DJ's monitor. It was an old, bi amped drum box with 2 x 18", a 10", and a 2" high end driver, power by a QSC PL 1.8. I knew he was trouble when he walked in, looked at the box, and said "Is this all you've got? It'll never be loud enough".

I'd be interested in your setup ie crossovers, roll off frequencies and box designs...there's no good reason for blowing drivers if they are adequate for the amps in use other than overdriving the amp into distortion..this is the usual reason for blown drivers...the design of most automotive amps is such that when heavily overdriven they seriously flat top or clip resulting in a high proportion of DC current being delivered to the speaker, this of course is not what it's designed for.....I laugh every time i hear some nerd in his badly stuffed hatch blowing the knackers out of his system...these guys seem to have some kind of filter built into their ears which make the totally oblivious the crap sound and distortion.
Advice - Always buy the best drivers you can afford and steer clear of amps which make stupid claims about wattage...you know 600 watts per channel...LOL yer ! yer !!!!.......first 100 watts is possibly, nearly acceptable sound quality but the last 500 watts is distorted, piano wire melting noise.

The last 3dB is always the hardest.

Chip...

I just had to replace 2 - 15 inch woofers in my Bass set up, I applied 1200 watts using an effect that had too much presence for the poor dears

I've never had that happen. I almost fried my motherboard once.
