Ive heard that someone is working on a copy of a reverse enginered version of XP, where they are taking all the crapout so its going to sort of like a linux version.

is this true?

it's true: http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html

I won't call it reverse engineered though, it's an open soure OS, which is binary compatible with windows.

Still alpha stage , bummer as I would like to try it . I'v found XP lite and XP Performance install disks that were interesting . I've got quite a collect now like Black , Indego , Crystal ect.

It's just finding the time to try them all thats a problem .

yeah, i guess it will be a good few years before it becomes usable (if ever), but the idea is really nice.

don't think it can be done.
however there is a copy of NT source code floating around since 2000.

Haha yeah. I remember when that leak happened. A bunch of coders would refuse to look at it so they wouldn't accidentally implement any of what they saw on their own projects.

i had a read about that once, it contains a lot of stuff of developers cursing at each other: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/2/15/71552/7795

yeah reactos has a ways to go.

i never got anything out of it except a blue screen(on boot), and followed their instructions exactly.

I have used ReactOS sucessfully. It's pretty good for what it is, but it's not advanced to run all the important programs.
