I'm just wondering if keygens work for the games and thus allow you to play for free?

Lol um no. You would be damn lucky to 1: Find a key that is stored in a database on the game's servers that actually works (MMO games don't have an internal serial algorithm, they are checked amongst a huge database) 2: Even if you did find a working key, you still need a valid credit card or a gamecard to play. The people that usually don't pay are ones like in EverQuest's guide program. Once a guide has gained enough experience and that, they are moved to a certain rank and their account is flagged for free. You would have to come up with a way to hack into the account servers, find your account, and flag it so you don't have to pay.
