I have one friend of a friend who had his modded the day after the ps3 released. It's all about knowing people who can do that kind of stuff though

lol what a load of bull

you can not mod a ps3 to play ps3 backups on it.

you can mod a ps3 to play PS1 and PS2 backups on it

but why you would do that with a £500 console when you can buy both the above for less than £100 is beyond me.

I won't mod mine cuz the guy charges a fair amount to have it done and says that he can't guarantee he won't ruin the ps3.

i run a games only tracker with 80,000+ sony fanboys on the thing. I think if it had been "modded" i would know about it dont you.

Its not the fact that i dont believe you, its the fact, that it hasnt and cant be done yet at all.

and your friend is telling you he may brick your PS3 because hes talking rubbish.

Sony issues many firmware updates via PSN or through newer games.

If a PS3 gets modded, the mod can be undone by this.

Think PSP.

Well whatever it is, he's renting games and somehow playing them after returning them.

As I said, friend of a friend, I've seen it on the two occasions I've been at his place since the ps3 came out - last time being the beginning of the summer before I had my own ps3. I didn't bother asking questions cuz I was just playing wii and ps2 at the time. It's not like I know the guy very well.

I've read up on this stuff, I know there's nothing out for it. It makes me all the more interested to go back to his place and see what he actually does.

His wii (not sure if he got it, only heard 2nd hand), xbox, xbox 360, and ps2 all have mods. He has burnt games for every system.

I heard a few bluray backups worked on the launch firmware without any mods at all, I am not sure if it was true at all but I am sure that the firmware updates would have fixed it if it was.

he's obviously got something going on ! like the X360 the PS3 will be difficult to mod beyond FIRMWARE interventions ! see what the future geniuses bring !

I swear there is a way to play backed up PS3 games on a PS3. I saw it somewhere on this site.

Sure... you could mod the ps3 the day it came out. But not to play backups. That was for installing a new harddrive and linux.

There have been no releases for firmware hacks/modchips/or any other method of playing backups.

PS3 mod chip don't exist just in dreams !
though hackers have managed to hack the firmware so the PS3 would be able to run certain copied blu-ray games ! but that is basically it for the near future !!

I have a friend who knows all about this stuff too and he modded his dog and has got it playing wii, ps3 and xbox 360 games... and its also a toaster.

When there's some decent news to report on a PSX hack, I will post it ASAP. Unfortuantely, this holiday season, the only hack will be the new hacked price of the PS3- $399.

LOL, i guess there is no real point in worrying about a ps3 hack because the price of blu-ray is so high, maybe if there was a way to mount the image that would be cool :fst:
