Does anybody know about the "ins and outs" of starting your own tracker. where to get the code that 99% of trackers use for the pages?

any detailed information would be appreciated via this thread or by pm

I can offer a few suggestions, however, you need to be a bit more specific on what it is you wish to accomplish.

1. Decide on the name. Get yourself a website. If you are going to host the site yourself, or with some web hosting company in Sweden ( think about the legal ramifications of this in your own country )

2. You will need to have at least access to SQL and PHP extensions on your webserver. If you host the site yourself, this can be done very easily on any Linux distro using the famous Apache webserver. However, most web hosts charge extra for these extensions.

3. There are plenty of tracker packages which are available to install. Most are open source and are PHP based. All you need to do is read the 'help' file, which should instruct you on which areas in the source file to modify for your particular setup.

4. Decide on how you want the tracker to operate, ie. public, private, who can upload etc.

5. What happens next is up to you. Bona fortuna! I'd say setting up a tracker is much easier than actually getting it recognition and building up a 'community' to go with it.

if I did not live in the U.S of A.... I would so have a tracker. I think the time you put in and what you may or may not get out of it is the most important thing, only you can decide if its worth it. for some it is and for some it's not!
of course naming your tracker some would say is the easiest part. but the better the name the more likely people will want to check it out. there for your site will have a greater chance to survive.

Chalisto/erist never had revolt code, but code from AL.
The code there was worked on by other coders as well as myself.

I somehow don't think that Eristalfa will ever live that down, will he...

As for specialist communities for working with tracker code, Alien5 managed to forget the most influential of them all, which is tbdev.net

I think I seen the torrent script being sold on eBay a while back, not sure if it's still there though - have a search.

Agreed with TheFox. TBDev = that's what I call tracker source code and support.

easy dont!!! to many trackers allready. just stupid to make more, vanilla TB Source is a swiss cheese, you need a php coder to fix all the bugs and security holes in it. you also need uploaders, which are easyer said then done, scene axx would also be good

I'm with brokep on this one, the world needs a lot more trackers.
The more trackers there are, the harder it is for the mafiaa to bring them down.
