I find it really annoying when it seems logical that the parents
of your lover should pay for the dinner at a restaurant

It's not that i make more than them, on the contrary, i find it humiliating at times. It is a tradition i have seen in my past 3 relationships, so i guess it is a norm.

Yes i have tried to pay, in the end i find other ways.

Do you have similar experience?

nah, but i sometimes feel lobotomized during their architorture discussions.(guaranteed)
father is an architect, mother is an urban planner,
just imagine the discussions.

now back to the original question...

Seems that the eldest always tried to pay.

About a year ago when dating a different gal and out with her parents, I excused myself to the restroom. The real reason for sneaking off was to give my credit card to the waiter long before we finished eating. When they asked for the check, the receipt for the dinner was already billed and brought to me to sign. No debating. No hassle. :)

@100%, I think your best strategy is to try and pay but let them win in the end. That way they don't think you're cheap, but they feel good for having paid for dinner thus giving you some brownie points. Now if you often go out to dinner with her parents then it might be a good idea to invite them out some time and make it clear the whole night is on you :)

And to answer the other part of your question, yes it is very common my in-laws always try to pay for everything

It's tradition. Offer to pay and if they insist let them. If your feeling guilty about it either get over it or do something nice and unexpected that they would like.

What ? Like make a pass at her mother... well it'd be unexpected, and she may even think it was nice!

my question is who is the lover in the picture?

Skweeky

I don't understand the dilemma.

If someone offers to pay for something I agree straight away.
If they didn't want to, surely they wouldn't offer?

Right?
