Why do you need them? So you can compromise their privacy? I can't think of a legit reason some random person would want to know the full names that are intentionally abbreviated other than pure curiosity and the sick feeling of being left out of the loop.

Ok I will be nice. The truth is, you can know pretty much everything you need to know about a tracker that is abbreviated, except its full name and its web address. So you can ask some one for, say, and FTN invite and when he invites you, then and only then will you get to know the full name. *edit*well that is not really true. there will always be screw-ups. People may privately tell you the name if you ask them, but never in public

The same happened to me when I got invited to FSC.

I think he means users that have an account there refer to the abbreviations like the rules dictate, but the members that don't say the full name.

Pretty much, I mean its barely a stop gap at best. People are going to find them anyway, if you know how to use Google and have a little time. But I also understand why sites want to do it also.
