I'm sure they've started capping my internets in the evenings:unsure:

Somebody posted the other day, can't remember who. When you get to a certain level on a daily basis they limit the download speed. I think the evening thing is because you have been downloading all day, it must reset at some point.

I've noticed that I can get speed like the one above early on but by the evening it's down to about 500-600K.

My current speed is 1.52MB but I haven't downloaded as much today as I did yesterday.

Mine's down to loiyke 20KB every evening, even when I haven't been downloading any internets that day:emo:

Someone mentioned that last week, if you download more than 5GB or something during peak time, they cap you at 5mb for like 5 hours or something. I only had the chance to test it today and it's true. Either that or they're diverting the bandwidth from the scummy bit I live in to keep the posh bastards like JP happy.

To be fair I think I can live with downloading 5GB a day. Particularly if it's during peak times and if even then I can continue downloading as if I only had a 5MB connection. .

I think I might go back to my preferred method of interweb stealing, like.

Got anything good you can post to me, JP?:smilie4:

Sorry, I forgot you were a poor geordie.

Broadband Size: L
During peak times, the top 5% on the Size: L package download at least 750MB of traffic each.

Any users hitting this amount during peak times (4pm till midnight) will have their broadband speed temporarily traffic managed – their download speed will be set to 2Mb, with their upload speed set to 192Kb. This will last for 4 hours from when the traffic management policy is applied.

Even if a Broadband: Size L user has their speed temporarily traffic managed, they can still download over 1,500 music files per day.

It's strange that they're capping it now tho' cause I haven't downloaded anything all day.

By my calculations we can download more than the limit while capped, I hope we don't get capped at poor people speeds after that :(

That would just be wrong, the likes of us suffering because of the chavs.

Would it be wrong for me to log onto someone else's wireless network to obviate this problem. I can confirm that the chap is a prick, as well as not securing his network and naming the PCs in such a way as it's obvious who he is.

Does he not even have MAC address filtering on?:o

lols. I use MAC address filtering on our wireless interwebs cause my brother's ghey laptop doesn't support WEP encryption.

Basically, our network isn't encrypted but nobody can connect to it without me adding their MAC address to the allowed list in teh router settings. Not the safest way, I know, but any credit card type stuff gets done on my computer which isn't on the wireless connection anyway.

edit: a MAC address is like a unique ID for hardware, like wifi interweb cards.
edit2: I think:unsure:

Mr JP Fugley
09-30-2007, 09:58 PM
Gotcha.

I use the WEP thing.

He doesn't seem to use anything, not even an admin password on the router. There's another one which has a password on the router but doesn't encrypt, what's the fucking point of that. If you go to that bother then just encrypt the fucker ya lazy cunt.

It almost makes me think it would be wrong not to steal their width.

That's a good idea like. Means you can walk in a closerness direction to get a better signal.

(Mootar) morons.
(Mootar) these people who live in my apartment complex are connected to my wireless
(Mootar) they must think they're super-cool hackers by breaking into my completely unsecure network
(Mootar) unfortunatly, the connection works both ways
(Mootar) long story short, they now have loads of horse porn on their computer

gotta love bash quotes.

I pause my utorrent between the hours of 4pm and 12am, Then for the rest of the early hours and all day til 4pm I get a solid 2.4Mb/s. Infact I find it better to use the peak hours for seeding only.

2.4Mb constantly on BT, what tracker are you using to maintain that type of speed.

And also, what upload speed do you have.

Beenieman
10-01-2007, 02:41 PM
S*T usually always gives me that speed and if I'm quick F*N too but not as often. I'm on the 20mb Package (Virgin) and the upload is 768kb but you divide that by 8 which usually gets me around 90-110kb/s uploading it varies tbh. Why you ask?

Mr JP Fugley
10-01-2007, 03:46 PM
Just interested, I can't get those sort of speeds on BT but then I don't use those trackers. Well I can but only if I'm in at the right time

I get that type of speed on Usenet tho' and to be honest barely use BT now. Other then UKNova which has a very specific content which interests me.

Well strange enough I started on Newsgroups and moved onto torrents lol. Newsgroups were useful but it didnt have a well based community or atleast I didnt know about this place at the time. Speeds were good assuming you had a good provider, I used Newshosting for about 2 years but got fedup of them moaning when I opened more than 8 connections just to get my full 10meg at time, Anyway I moved onto Giganews which was great but then I had money issues and moved onto torrents, then after a while realised i could get everything i needed just as fast and stayed here on torrents.

Mr JP Fugley

I get pretty much what i want via the virgin service provided along with the broadband, so no additional cost implication.

I suppose a big factor is what you are looking for.
