Well since im not a mod i cant make polls and I didnt feel like bothering a Mod to ask if they could make me a poll so anyway I've been editing the hosts file with lots of ad servers for Paul and he is going to probably put two versions of the HOSTS file on the kazaa lite site...one that is a small file size....the same one it has now....and one i edited with lots more ad servers which works best with windows XP. It doesnt work very well on Windows ME thought because of the HOSTS file's size because it blocks so many ad servers. My edited version has almost 1000 more ad servers....its about 25 kb larger than the normal HOSTS file. So could you guys just make a post and say what version of Windows you have?..

All of them except windows XP. No need for it at the moment and Win2K outperforms it by far anyway.

Actually tests do indicate that win 2k outperforms win xp. Check pc Powerplay a few months back if I remeber correctly (Australian).

Xp pro 2600, I only have a modem but I'm connected almost 24/7 so I have plently of 100+mb files on my list.

I couldn't have said it better myself - and I have used XP quite a bit. I have 2 Win2K Pro machines. While graphically XP may look like it has better bells and whistles, Win2K can do everything that XP can do and it has way less system resources. XP also suffers from the same thing that made WinMe totally suck balls - that damn useless System Restore "feature." Even if you disable it it still takes up system resources.

One knife in one socket will not hurt you!

That's the point of that picture.

If you had two knives, one in each hand, one in each side of the plug, then it would be a circuit and a problem.

As long as you don't complete a circuit or touch a potential ground when holding a wire, it's relatively safe.

And I'd feel more comfortable with a knife in a socket than with XP on my computer! ;)

What happens if the kids touching something thats earthed? he'll still get shocked.
Edit: Sorry didn't read all of balamm's post, he mentions the earthed thing. Btw you'll always get a shock touching a mains cable, whether its large enough to feel/affect u will depend on what else u r touching, how good a path to earth it offers and whether you're hands are wet.
Its all a form of natural selection, if u're dum enough to try messing with mains electricity then perhaps the gene pool isn't the right place for u.

Windows XP Pro SP1 on the one computer.
Windows ME on the other.
Windows 3.11 on my main system!!!
You just can't beat the good old days when it took the best part of 2 days to install a program that was the size of a couple of floppy discs eh?

Sorry about posting this twice, my computer screwed up! Serves me right for using 3.11.

Windows XP. Home Edition right now because it came with the PC, but I might do a full format & reinstall of it, this time the Lamsey Corporate Edition ;)

But (looking at the poll options) - since when Microsoft omit the Windows part of its OSs' names?

XP also suffers from the same thing that made WinMe totally suck balls - that damn useless System Restore "feature." Even if you disable it it still takes up system resources.

Confucious say - What is one person's annoyance is another person's godsend.
I'm sorry if I offend some people...but I am not one to completely flush out and reinstall Windows & all my programs at the event of a semi-serious system problem. I could use GoBack in Norton Systemworks, but AFAIK it only does manual backups while System Restore does it for every day & every time I install something. Almost a year since my first install of WinXP and I haven't had to reinstall it once, despite installing & uninstalling near 100 different pieces of software, and I can base a lot of that on System Restore.

True that it should be have the option of taking it off like other Windows components, but just because it can't and you don't like it doesn't mean that others don't feel the same. <_< Check one of the numorous WinXP tweak sites to see if there is a way to take it off - If a program can be done which uninstalls DirectX, there's gotta be one for System Restore.

exactly!

Windows XP Pro Corporate currently, but I'm seriously thinking about switching back to Win2k. I also want to install Gentoo Linux, as an experiment.

WinXP/Gentoo or Win2k/Gentoo?

Windows Me came with the computer so I got used to it.
Changed to XP Pro a while back didn't like it at first but it grows on you
wouldn't go back to Me now.
Xp is a lot more learner friendly.

Oh this is cool....it got made into a poll....i just sort of forgot about this topic ....but its good to know most people use windows XP cuz that means more people can get the large hosts file i made...

http://www.geocities.com/klitehostsfile

And people please only download the file when new versions of it come out if u want it cuz since its on a free server it doesnt have much bandwidth..

So which mod made this a poll? Jetje?

I kindy thought i was like sort of hated by u Jetje cuz of that webboard topic a little while ago..and how i got a little pissed ...But since then i've been trying to improve my mod-relations :)

ummm.... no, once you get used to it might be more accurate.
I can't imagine trying to keep XP alive in a server environment.
Even a small ftp setup would be a bitch to secure and keep running without constant lockups.
Windows 2000 works as both a desktop OS and a server if it's upgraded.
The same is not true of XP despite 2 years of struggling to make it work.
The very reason we now have server 2003. XP without the "X" you might say. All X related frills have been disabled to make this version work as well as win2k server already did. Go Figure!!

DarkBlizzard
07-11-2003, 10:31 AM
Well alot of people agree with me that once you ( anyone) gets used to it you dont wanna go back to the other ones because of how horrible they are..If you have a good computer XP isnt at all slow or laggy or anything at all...its a prefect system as long as u actually wanna spend a little money on your system...if you buy a XP computer for under $1000 u can expect it to be slow because you got a bad computer. In computers most of the time the price matches the quality....those $600 computers cant stand up to a $3000 computer.

So.... you're saying this is the reason for XP not being a suitable OS. Not enough money paid for the hardware. You have been Duped by marketing hype!

A $100,000 server array still sees XP as a piece of shit but has no problems with NT or Win2k.
By your logic they must simply pour more money into it to satisfy XP ?

This has gotten beyond rediculous!

Microsoft basicly adds a few new features to window's server editions and slaps a "current year" label on it hehe
