A Sarasota teen is in stable condition at Bayfront Medical Center this morning, recovering from a stunt gone terribly wrong.
Tuesday evening, 18-year old Paul Smith jumped from the roof of a five-story condominium building on Siesta Key. He was aiming for the pool, but missed his mark. A videotape shot by a friend (http://64.159.76.64//0305/07/jackass_hi.wmv) shows Smith slamming onto the concrete edge, and then tumbling into the pool.
Kevin Stone says his stepson was flown to the hospital by helicopter. He suffered a broken pelvis and multiple fractures in both his legs, and his right arm.
Smith’s mother, Janet Stone, says the MTV stunt-show ‘Jackass’ influenced her son, and led him to put his life in danger.
A sheriff’s office spokesman says misdemeanor trespassing charges may be filed against Smith, and the other teens that were with him. They’re waiting to see if residents at the Sarasota Surf and Racquet Club condominiums decide to press charges.
