View Full Version : FTN loses speed

Polarbear

i noticed, that the ftn browsing times are getting worse and worse for me.

there is a discussion going on in the ftn forum, but the experiences there are quite controversial. some say it's slow - some say it's fast as usual.
maybe it's my pipe, or my isp or whatever
but when i compare it with sct, it's like a ferrari and a skoda (ot: yeah i know, there are fast skodas dear east-europeans, but i mean the smaller slower ones :whistling)

well, i guess it will change pretty soon and come back to normal.

how are your browsing times on ftn?
i want to figure out wether it's my fault somehow, or if it's the site.

damn, are there any germans here who have ftn? this sucks. i mean ist isn't super slow. still better than most of of 80% of the other sites.
but there is a significant speed difference if compared to sct.

i gotta find out where their servers are. can't remember right now.

sometimes the start page takes like 2 sec to appear. and guys you know, 2 sec is like eternity.

well let's see if therer are more who experienced the same.

It's only a tad slow on the index page when I'm seeding, but thats all.

FTN is being slow as usual
ScT is fast loading, less then a second at tops, but you cant expect anything less from a webserver and database server connected to 100Mbit and 1Gbit with Gzipped pages.

If find it funny how Brandon is always saying, ScT doesnt need that much hardware and tha the FTN server could host a site like ScT. Well right now imagine if ScT was on an FTN like server in Malaysia? ScT has 90000 peers to FTNs <15 000 and 15000 users to FTNs <6000.

 I notice the anti FTN/Pro SCT crew is at it again. I never fail to see both darkness and PolarBear at it. PolarBear, I suggest you find something more productive to do with your time than compare routing on two torrent servers, and darkness I suggest you do a little research on both server specs and routing. We'll end up raising the limit, and you'll see ;)

cmon guys .. Brandon is right. Im sure you guys know All trackers have their advantages and disadvantages .. nothing is perfect in this world ..lets just face it..

Both trackers are perfect just the way they are, im personally not a member of FTN nor ScT (seen ScT from friends). They both provide us with a welcoming and comfortable community for us to share files and meet new people... I've heard many nice things from both trackers. Of course different people have different opinions, but if it's inappropriate plz do try to keep it to yourself ..theres no need to offend others.

thanks for your time.

I'm curious how you can say that, and then I see you're all over FSC. You DO realize fsc is hosted in the exact same datacenter with similar specs.... right...? :hmm:

ScT's already increased their limit by 1000 to 16,000. I can't see them stopping at just 16k either... 20k anyone? :whistling

my intention was not to start a ftn vs. sct discussion here. i just described something i realized over the past few days.

my intention was to see if other user are experiencing the same issue, so i could sort things out.

guys, believe me. i fought many flamewars about the good old pc vs.mac topic when some of you were visiting kindergarten. pages over pages.
i'm to lazy for that. we're not talking about global warning or the situation in the third world here.
it's two bittorrent tracker, a word that 99% of the population wouldn't even understand.

sct and ftn are both great tracker. and i'm proud to be a member on both -

ibnahmed

since sct decided to increase their member database to 15k
they did something good to the speeds and leeching
but
now, sct ACCOUNTS as well as invites are traded here and everywhere very easily
i guess like 10% of the accounts are whores yet they are not useful since they are only for trade
i trade it to u and u dont use it
u trade without anyone using it

6k in ftn with brandons policy, becoming an even nicer place.

I'll be waiting for you to one day realize you're comparing apples to oranges ;)
btw, feel free to check out ftn's userlimit ;) Hope that wait wasn't too long for you. Want a lollypop? :)

Next you'll be saying "i'll be waiting for you to charge for invites ;)" Apples and oranges. Both sites are great, stop comparing.

Heres a simple test i ran, personally i dont think page speeds matter as long as it doesnt take 10-20 secs to load. Both trackers still have excellent tracker speeds so...

Wrong... The spec for the FSC machine is far greater than that for FTN. Ask Zlo...

The only reason for site slowdowns would be routing/bandwidth. Remember that Asia is currently playing catchup with the US/Europe, but is well on it's way to becoming a major player with the imminent installation of the new fibre optic that connects Asia to Europe, which will give almost EU speeds to EU members.

Also, there is a lot of code optimisations that can speed up a site. Many repetitive queries, or uncached queries, can have an impact of page production. GZIP or compression does help, but the time taken to generate a page is often the main reason for slow responses (added on top of normal lag).
