I thought you said musicians?

Anyway. Bob Dylan gets the most respect from me. I mean, what didn't he write?

Also me for being white and surviving so long.

Bob Dylan, obviously. No one else has continuously been as good for so long.

Neil Young also gets a shitload of respect from me for totally changing things up with his new project "Greendale."

I respect Guitar-Slinger

http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/GS.JPG

His music is really great, for sure, but more to the point of respect - he's a nice guy, always has a kind word to say, and I know him to be helpful and giving as well.

You can find him here in this forum, as well as in the KLF Musicworld room at SoulSeek, where he can be quite the chatterbox. You can also download all of his music from him - go give it a listen!

Tchau!

I respect any musician who has had the balls to make it in the music industry...They've made it further than 3 quarters of the people who post in musicworld *me included*...Yet we always seem to take potshots at artists *me included*...But yeah i spose it gives us something to do...Anyways If i had to choose a musician or a group who i hold the highest respect for...it would be Staind...Their music and lyrics together speak so highly....And i can relate tp them so much and i just respect them for keeping their music true...

I highly respect Cold for a couple reasons. One--not selling out, unlike some other bands...i.e. Metallica, Korn. Two--They never gave up and now they r finally getting some recognition. And three--they r making actual music...not some whiny ass crap about "down with God" and "long live drugs"...I can't stand that...

I Also agree with Celery...Staind. They too have actually improved and r one of the few remaining bands who haven't sold out and aren't full of themselves... one last one would be Audioslave...comeback rockers who actually improved. I believe they will redefine a certain part of Rock which has been long lost.

the ever changing always ready, david bowie. :D
so many different styles and always progressing with the times. the guy is a genius. :)

same goes for bob dylan, jim morrison, bruce springstein. the list is endless.
i admire freddie mercury for his effort he put into his music and the energy he showed in live performances, though i really hate his voice.
also bob geldof, i dont really like his music to much, but what he did with live aid in the 80's etc was just pure inspiration. using his position in music to help others who needed it, and providing a festival too.
rage against the machine for their contraversial political albums when they were so young, and absolute class songs. :D

i laugh in the face of anyone who admires eminen. :P
what has done for us except create more drug taking, fight starting, cap wearing kiddies who hang around at the end of your street looking shiftily at your car? maybe its not eminen, the kids are just bad. but im sure his influence doesnt improve anything.
/bit of a long winded "old person" rant there. oops.

Roots Manuva. Been representing UK hip hop for years, and stuck to his own inimitable style. The guy gets heaps of critical success but not too much commercially, but is still working hard.

I would have to say Sting, I don't really listen to his music but he is making it, and I respect that.

As a guitar player, my point of view is heavily biased. ;)

Dr. Steve Vai (http://www.vai.com/), he has done what most of mucisians dream of,
making a good living staying true to his music.
And its interesting to read his interwievs as he is a nice guy,
folks seem to take him way too serious tho, he has a lot of humour in his
music also...
Winning grammy awards, getting an honorary Doctor of Music degree (http://www.vai.com/News/images/berklee_big.jpg) from Berkley music school,
just to name a few respectable subjects..

Others to mention is naturally Brian Setzer (http://www.briansetzer.com/), the Real Guitar Slinger ;)
This guy started with Stray Cats, then had a few solo years and pulled out
the Greatest Big Band and these days, The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
The Coolest Cat in Calaxy also has few cool rewards in his pocket,
Orville H. Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award (http://www.gibson.com/whatsnew/pressrelease/1999/feb23a.html), plus some grammys...

Fellow Finn Timo Tolkki has done cool sounding albums, he may
not be a virtuoso likes of Dr.Vai but Stratovarius (http://www.stratovarius.com/) cd's sounds huge :)

Mr. Malmsteen (http://yngwie.org/) for neo-classical sweeping and hilariously stoopid interviews,
he can play but OMG for the crap that sometimes roll out of his mouth! :x
He obviously dont like ppl "copying" his style but atm, he is
"TEH Ritchie Blackmore" wannabe, (i'd like to be able to play like Ritchie too)

Oh, found a funny YJM joke:
Sam dies and goes to guitar heaven. He is given a nice room to live in and is told
that many of the greatest musicians that ever lived are here. Hendrix, Joplin,
Morrison and a whole lot more. "Is Yngwie Malmsteen here?" he asked. "Hush.
It is not good to talk of him here." So he goes to his room and goes crazy when
he sees his room full of guitars and stacks. That night, he goes out, parties with
all the musicians and comes back blown out of his mind. The next day, he is sitting
in his room when he hears a passage being played on the guitar. He runs out
shouting "Thats Yngwie, thats Yngwie. Where is he? I want to meet him." "I told
you before, we do not talk of him here. All I can say is that he is in another
place." "But.. " "Shhh. Now go back to your room and forget Yngwie." After a few
days, Sam is walking around when once again he hears unmistakable
Yngwie. "This has gone far enough. I know that Ynwgie is here and I demand to
see him." "Well, if you really want to know." said the angel. "You hear that guitar
being played. That's God. He thinks he's Yngwie."

Dont get me wrong tho, i have a huge respect for the dude, but some
of the interviews i've seen has a great value of entertaining. ;)

..and what about Mr. Blackmore? Anyone knows what he's been doin lately?
Apparently the last gig what im aware of happened not so long ago, Ritchie and
his wife was playing in some bup here in Norway, MedEvil (http://www.blackmoresnight.com/tour_info.html) music with acoustic, wife was singing.

Jim Hendrix (http://www.jimi-hendrix.com/) was a Pioneer, like
Chet Atkins (http://www.misterguitar.com/),
Van Halen (http://www.van-halen.com/newsite/index2.html)
The Beatles (http://www.themarleystore.com/beatofweb.html),
Django Reinhardt (http://www.hotclub.co.uk/),
this guy didnt have all the fingers working, and still he was amazing player.
...list could go on and on but i have to hop in to SS, cuz:
Sharing is Caring ! :P

Nice post, Guitar-Slinger.

A few musicians in there I have never heard of - Timo Tolkki, Malmsteen, and Django Reinhardt - so now I'm looking forward to hearing them. I can say I knew that Brian Setzer is the real Guitar-Slinger, so I do know a little bit about guitar players.

Thanks for the in-depth and informative post.
