So technically I am new to usenet/newsgroups but within a few minutes of finally giving it a shot I picked it up QUICK but anyways I started with the 3day trial for giganews(lasted about a couple of hours) but burned that 10gb rather quickly signed up for unlimited now im about 45 hours shy of hitting the 2week mark and as it stands Im at 229.02GB. So share your new comer stories! I love newsgroup I can't believe it took me so long to come around and give it a shot now I REFUSE to use torrents unless I absolutely have to and I looove FST awesome forum you guys are great!

New - About 2 weeks old. Signed up with Ngroups.net - Octoberfest (till Oct 31 promotion - $9.99/month - unlimited). I have already downloaded about 100gb. I think my usage will come down in the future as I settle down.

Between my consoles, movies (DVD, divx and HD/Bluray) and the occasional PC app and game iso - I pull down 800GB a month.

When I started it was about 100 gig a month. Now I download about 30 gig a month on usenet. What you guys are doing with 600 gig etc a month is beyond me.:dabs:

You guys are MONSTERS! I probably do about 10-15GB monthly. Mostly t.v shows, movies, apps, and documentaries. I have DSL so I don't have the patience to download DVDs or HD movies :(

My isp caps my downloads at 30gb, and when i first got premium newsgroups i used the 30gb in less than week. Being shaped back to dial-up speed for 4 weeks isn't fun :(

I download interesting PC games, HD movies, OS's and various apps and mp3s here and there. Other than that I don't break more than 200GB a month.

There was a time I constantly had my 12MB connection maxed out while with TorrentLeech. I sat in the top 10 for most downloaded (I was above 12TB within a years time) and one day I woke up and realized that yes, it was like a disease as dasheeki mentioned above. I download the things I need now, nothing more and nothing less. Newsgroups helped me get out of that “ratio and stat counting” rut that torrents seem to be so popular with these days.

Hell, with HDDVDs and Blurays coming in at 30gig each, just 10 movies a month would easily put you over 300gig.

Well, since you are interested in "newbie" stories my story began with only being able to download 100MB a month and that was back in '97. Those were the days. A lot has changed since then and i'm glad that usenet providers have up'd their bandwidth and retention. There was a time when 7-days retention was the shit!!!

Now, i average about 1.8 - 2.5TB a month depending how much free time i have.

In the 18 months since i discovered newsgroups i'm close to 2tb.
Would be more if Virgin Media hadn't brought in there traffic shaping.
(sigh) I miss telewest.

Wow after reading this thread the 292 GB i have downloaded this month doesn't seem like much. Quick question though: should I be worried downloading that much living on the campus of a college and using their internet connection?

Well apparently too much for comcast since they shut off my internet.

I called them and they turned it back on but warned if i keep using excessive bandwidth I will be banned for a year!

Although its not all from newsgroups, I seed almost 24/7.

Upload cost the companies more than download.
That's probably what's pissing them off.

I stated using newsgroups about 3 days ago and am never going back to bittorrent, unless i can't find something on newsgroups. According to powerusenet.com, i've downloaded 116GB in 2.6 days. By this rate im gonna need a couple more hard drives.

:naughty::naughty::naughty:

Only worry after your provider sends you a "warning" letter in the mail or email. Until then, hog up as much free bandwidth as possible.

Use both Usenet first if not then yes BT. I really feel you need to give usenet a chance get to understand but end of day whatever works for you. Good luck, as stated earlier I use about 30 gig per month on usenet man that would take me like 3 months on BT...lol:01:... Well actually that is about as anal as me saying as you said I gave up after 1 gig.... Both systems are good choose wisely.:noes:

Way to much to count, but I do know it was 12 360 games, 8 Wii games, and 10 or so PS2 games. I can't count how many movies and PSP/DS games I got. At least 500gb in the first month. Nice to have a 20/5 connection at home.
