With the introduction of "file sharing" isp's who have "unlimited" acess are not very unlimited anymore. Before p2p programs isps were unlimited you could download all you want upload all you want. Now cable and dsl companies have limits averaging around the 4,5,6gb area for downloading and around 2gb for uploading. (It varies on your isp duh)

Ofcourse now maybe you don't download 6 gigs of music on kazaa (maybe you do)
You have also forgotten the other things you do on the internet do you surf the internet? Look at your temporary internet files after 1 month and it could get pretty big. What about that streaming video you were watching? What about that windows update you got? What about that big game patch? What about that big ass mod you got for your game? What about all those misc downloads? And you will see it ALL adds up, and 1 month is a pretty long time. :(

Uploading; now you might not have a ftp/http server but what about when your on kazaa? Some people leave kazaa 24/7 how many uploads can you have in 24hrs? And again it adds up...

Now it adds up to quickly and broadband companies are getting greedy so the next time you hear "UNLIMITED" cable or dsl think again....

i think one example is BT, sign up to a new ISP and leave your current ISP with a harsh message - that'll learn 'em

my recommended site of the month: ISPReview (http://www.ispreview.co.uk) (UK)

again, for the UK go to http://www.adslguide.org.uk and look for an uncapped ISP. I pay about £20 per month for 512/256 ADSL and I have no limits at all. (Well, i sometimes run out of ideas for movies, but that don't count :P )

Yeah, same here. I pay £18.99 per month for 512/256, but sometimes I think I'm on 4Mbps, yesterday I was downloading at 460KB/s and today for like 2 secs, I was at 3MB/s .

No software to crappy software that ruins your PC; they just hand over the advanced details and configure your ADSL modem yourself! It's a "wires-only" service, so you buy the modem etc. yourself if you feel like it, that's what I did and I have a top-of-the-range ADSL modem for £20.

Installation is £55, microfilters cost around £10, but you can get some for a fiver.

I use Plus Net, though reading the link I gave, free24 is being launched in August, and will offer £27.50 for 1 Mbit with only £30 activation. I fancy a change :)

I pay US $50 for a 768/128 ADSL connection. For the same price i could get a 1500/128, but the cables in my area can only handle 768. Cable is available in my area for about the same price. My downloads are 99% of the time 90KB/s. My uploads are about 15KB/s. All isp's have unlimited downloads and uploads where i live.

You know i hear this alot. I live in Canada, I use Cogeco cable (thought it would be shit) 42 a month. And what i did not expect a 3mbit connection. Canada has tonnes of good ISP's. Telus does internet, well i have a telus phone and it sucks so i can imagine there internet. Sympatico is the devil, but rogers is ok.

That is my point i mean I was surprised. It varies a lot, on speedtest i will go from 2 mbit, to an astonishing 5mbit. I do not put alot of weight in speedtest but i mean i see it on my DUmeter, highest ever was around 450kb/s. And i am only paying for normal cable.

many things to write about....

first off...high speed internet in Canada RULES..believe me, ive been there, to a few friends houses, and their speeds are incredible....unfortunately, id never move away from good ole cali, USA....

for the UK, theres a few good ISP's i hear...

for me, i had MSN DSL for 1 year, and it was a constant speed of 80Kdown/16K up...the actual service provider was SBC......i never got any caps or messages saying i went over any limit....i played ALOT of online gaming and downloaded an average of at least 150 megs a day.....and my line speed was 768/160......

NOW, i have AT&T broadband cable, which is now comcast.....tho the service still shows as attbi when i do a tracert to my comp....and i'm almost the ONLY one in my neighborhood with it, i get about 300K max down and 35-40K up......

anyways, my suggestion goes to ATTBI and SBC for broadband internet...no caps that i know of, and cost $40....

Do you not have sympatico out there, they give (2 years ago) 1.1 mbit. I would get dlds around - oh 180KB/s ish. They enforce that cap real bad, but a little faster.

I know those to figures do not match up, but that was what i got.

I use Road Runner through Time Warner Cable. I have a 3Mbit connection. (Never had a better bandwidth test) My best download speed was 360kbs but normally stay within 275kps - 300kps, best upload I've was on Kazaa I was uploading 180kbs. (Between 4 users)
I haven't experienced any bandwidth limitations as of yet, and I have downloaded close to 75 gigs in the last 3 weeks. (I guess if I do have a limitation, I'm gonna be getting a phone call real soon.)

Worst company in the world - (inside info) if your speed does ever drop and you call tech support, if it is over like 100kb/s they will not do sh*t for yeah. The other problem that i say with Road Runner (very closley) is that time warner is a big player in the RIAA stuff, so i "bet" that they will fight real hard to keep your identity safe.

But when Road Runner works, it is pretty good.

That not exactly true, I my signal was weak and I was only getting half of my bandwidth, and they came out and hung a new line and even checked the signal a block down to make sure that I was getting the best I can.
