For the last week or so I have been barley able to get connected properly. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries using different ports and switching back and forth from secure and non-secure always with the same outcome of 2-5 connections at a very slow rate of speed and the "502 Authentication Error." and "400 too many connections" error and usually it is a mix like 3 "502 errors" and 4 "400 errors" or whatever. Sometimes late at night it is ok though and it will connect no probs. all 10 going full speed and maxing my connection out. So I started looking on the website a little more and noticed that they are no longer showing a detailed "network status" The usual graph showing incoming, outgoing connections and bandwidth used is gone. :whistling

Anyone else having this issue lately?

Yes I am having the same issues with usentserver especially the 400 too many connections on an off all week...
what are the other ports I could try with usenetserver ?
Thanks!

I got this same error even though I was with Ngroups.net. However, when I run the trace route it goes to usenetserver.com as final destination !! I guess Ngroups.net is a service provider only.

Ngroups.net is trying to find out if we they can provide a alternate download path but they have said they cannot influence the upload path to their servers.

What port should I connect to?
Port 119 is the default NNTP port, but we support ports 23, 25, 119, 1720, 3128 and 8000. Secure.usenetserver.com only allows encrypted SSL connections on ports 443, 563 and 8080.

I talked to them as well over live chat and they asked the same of me so I gave it to em but that was 4 days ago. Last night I asked about the issue again and they told me they are not sure when it will be fixed becasue the engineers are not sure at this point :frusty:

On the network status page it says > Sat, 3 Nov 2007 18:43:36 GMT

We had a router failure today. All is fixed now, but this event will effect service levels for the next several hours.

We are also aware that many of you are experiencing 400 errors. We are still uncertain of the cause of these errors but looking into them.

-----------------

Well i ve been with them for some time, but something is fishy
Copy paste from usenetserver.support newsgroup >

They already know what it is. They apparently don't care enough to fix
it. And it'll never get fixed as long as many of their customers
continue making excuses for the crappy service.
I've heard rumors that UseNetServer sold out to Highwinds Media. I've
dismissed it as just that, rumors. But perhaps there's some truth to
it. Perhaps UseNetServer really did sell out and join other Highwinds
resellers such a Teranews, and NNTPServer. Just a couple of examples of
other unreliable news services.

---------------------------------

I'll change providers any recommendation for the same price ?

cheers

Edit : As for now i can't connect at all. SSL ect..
nntp9.usenetserver.com ,nntp10.usenetserver.com doesn't even work

Any ideas what this routing path is AS23352 ? I get that by default.

I have thought something like this may have been going on as well, doubly so since they removed graphs on the network status page. Yesterday I talked to support again and they issued me an additional 14 days free service but what good is it when you cant use it, ya know. To bad really because I am also on the hunt for another provider.

The only other one I know of that is the same price is >http://www.ngroups.net/

But there are many others as well some may not be as cheap but offer better retention and/or SSL:

this issue is so fucking annoying. I just joined with them b/c I was having some incomplete issues on my ISP's newserver, which has been great for the past year or so.

I didn't realize how slow I was downloading. The speeds with usenetserver are awesome, topping out at 14Mbps. I was downloading movies in under 45 minutes. :-O I'm currently closing and opening newsbin to get a connection going.

I don't know why they can't fix this.

Anyone try PowerUsenet lately?
I tried them about a year ago, and although they were stable speeds were only mediocre. That also could have been because they were only offering five connections at the time.

I haven't decided between them and a Giganews Platinum account yet. An extra 100 days retention my come in handy.

I have a 6Mb down connection and I was lucky to see more than 350-400 KB/s I always usually get between 750-800+ KB/s .

Maybe I did not give it a chance really I was so fed up with usenetserver that when after a day the speed did not get better I canceled and started looking again.

Another UNS user here, at least for this month..

I tried test accounts from Access Usenet (100mb) and NewsDemon (1gig) so far. Not sure how speeds would've been with Access Usenet due to the small download cap. News Demon seems fairly consistent for me, usually staying near by max downstream (12Mbps)

Access Usenet just required an email to get a trial. NewsDemon I had to open an ticket for but I received it within an hour.

Neoworld

I was with AccessUsenet and with 20 Connections my speed was maxing out my 14Mbit connection on the 50GB a month plan for an awesome price (worked out even cheaper if you purchased the year).

However when NGroups.Net had here lifetime Unlimited special last month for $9.99 it was to good to pass up and am also getting max speeds. So guess I will be sticking around for life here unless something cheaper comes along which I don't forsee.

Therefore even at the $14.95 it is now for new subscribers I suggest checking NGroups out also.

Update from usenetserver

Wed, 7 Nov 2007 03:26:04 GMT

We have identified the cause of the network instability that some users have been experiencing lately. We have ordered replacement hardware which should be here on Nov 8. In the mean time, we have rerouted part of our internal network to get around the issue temporarily. However, some customers may still see a few errors during peak times. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank You,

I switched to Giganews, speeds are excellent as expected, 1258KB\s and very steady.
They are just so darn pricey.... ugh.

No, it's not unless your ISP is doing traffic shaping.
If you use the forum search there is dozens of threads discussing SSL.

Do not make the same mistake I did. I switched to Thundernews and after a day had the same errors I was getting with usenetserver. Support lied to me 3 times saying there is no problem it was on my end. So I ran a traceroute to thundernews and lo and behold I was being routed through usenetserver, lol after I confronted them with that they gave me a full refund. Then I looked around a bit and settled on Newshosting and that works fine and has since I signed up with them. Anyways Newsdemon is routing through Usenetserver.com as well. Your right, wow. Looks like it's Giganews then. That's probably why they are having so many connection issues. They have resellers + clients from UNS....That's alot.

Try NGroups.Net or AccessUsenet as I have no problems with NGroups currently.

I have had no issues since they've claimed repair on the problems. I just can't bring myself to swtich. $13 and some change a month for SSL and 10 connections that max out my 20 MB line? I'll deal with minor issues. Giganews is a great provider, I wont argue that, but they're too expensive in my opinion.
