I like Jazz.

Specially Jazz-Funk - beginning of the 70s but i'll listen to any year/type. Other type I really enjoy, as an example, is the type you can hear in the movie Ascenseur pour l'échafaud. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051378/)

The soundtrack for this movie is by Miles Davis.

Listened to a lot when I was young, mostly trad.
I was listening to a record by Iris Dement called 'Hobo Bill's Last ride'. The 'floating sax' on that record ,I think, is brilliant.

I like that easy to listen kind of jazz that has a 'normal' song structure. Dave Brubeck,Billie Holliday, some of Coltranes work,a lot of nu jazz like Nicola Conte,St Germain...But that real jazz,i find a tad boring. Went out to a jazz club a few times, but god bored with half an hour drum solos. Not my cup of tea.

What's real Jazz?

The past 5 years i'm more and more into the Jazz :)

Of course i knew Jazz before, there's an annual fiveday Jazzfestival in a town nearby where i live with over a million visitors every year. Wich i visit every year for over 30 years now. But mainly go there because it has a nice atmosphere. It is in the summer and it's nice to have some beers while chatting outdoors with friends and there some music.

But since a holliday in Spain about five years ago, something changed. Sitting in a chiringuito on the beach at night the chiringuito owner played music of Michael Camillo & Tomatito (Album Spain). I fell in love with that music. From there on i started a journey through the world of Jazz. I alreay knew a lot of music, but this journey give it a whole new perspective an most of all, probably years to go before i have found all treasures of Jazz!

My favorite artists so far
Michel Camillo
Chet Baker (wich is good for many to start with Jazz!)
John Coltrane
Jeroen Zijlstra
Michiel Borstlap
Bobby McFerrin
João Gilberto

oh and plenty more but with these you have a good start :)
