View Full Version : Why Not Open The Source To Protect Kazaa?

hi guys..

in the recent "war" of the industry against filesharing, why can't the kazaa lite folks open the source of kazaa? or haven't even they access to the real source? if kazaa were opensource, it were impossible for the industry to "restrict the usage" of the software - and dozens of alternative clients would appear.. and my dream of a linux based kazaa client (a good gui one) would be come true.. ;)

anyway, is this theoretically possible? and what do you mean to my theory, would it be better as open source?

hmm..

we don't have any source code

Nevertheless, there is a Linux app that connects to FastTrack: mldonkey
But Kazaa Lite work fine on Linux too when you use WINE.

And the industry cannot shut down Kazaa Lite.

Kazza Lite is the perfect answer, as no-one owns it or is responible for it

does kazaa lite use the same network as kazaa?

Yes. Kazaa Lite is NOT a different program in many aspects. In fact, it IS the same program as KMD 2.0.2, accept for the fact that the spyware has been removed and a loader has been written.

If the developers had the source code kazaa lite would be far supior to what it is.

think Partial filesharing, error correction, anomity, chat and more

It's still not perfect. If it was perfect I could download something with only one source and not require multiple sources to find a file.

Yes Edonkey is a joke of a p2p system. How the hell do you use it anyway? :(

emule is not all that bad. It might take a while to download things, but I have not yet seen a bunch of crap on there that is misnamed and have not found alot of viruses like on kazaa.
