if you get hosting from them also, it's only 5$/yr.

I wonder how Yahoo, Msn, etc host they're domains... i mean, maybe they pay the government for em..

Surely they host their own domains.
Keeping it registered is nothing, really.

There&#39;s two different charges when it comes to setting up a website.

1) The domain registration.
2) The cost of hosting.

You can avoid #2 by hosting the website on an Internet-connected machine that you own. That&#39;s what larger companies, like Yahoo and Microsoft, do.
