This has probably come up in the past, but lately I'm not in a too good mood so I tend to listen to depressing songs...
Can you make any suggestions, possibly rock..
Thanks

Try listening to: Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost OF Tom Joad

It's a very good album and all the songs on it are very dark and depressing.

Hmmm. I'm surprised nobody has said Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds yet.
Nobody sings a dirge like old Nick, there ain't any darker than him, imho.

The Crying Song
The Wild Rose (duet between Nick and Kylie Minogue)
Red Right Hand

enjoy...?

(edit: Finally remembered the correct title of Red Right Hand )

Leonard Cohen alway had a chirpy, up-beat take on things.......... :(
Some of the Smiths stuff is also really positive (Girlfriend in a coma etc).

Tool, NIN, Tea Party and ole Nick Cave make very dark songs but they are all beautiful rather than depressing ;)

also, check out Swans and Lydia Lunch.

Iced Earth - Dantes Inferno

A really long song about venturing through hell. It can be kinda depressing but you may have to look at the lyrics to hear what the singer is saying.

Okay then, try this one on fer size...

Love will tear us apart by The Underground Lovers

I saw an interview with a couple of members of the band a few years ago... Apparently, the guy that wrote and sung it killed himself just before the song's retail release - it roared up the charts, and went on to become a major influence for many musicians years after. Is that dark and depressing enough?

When I am depressed I like to listen to some good old Metallica (Turn The Page, The Unforgiven, The Unforgiven 2) but sometimes I also put on some Diva Destruction, which is gothic rock.

Tea Party - The Messenger or Heaven Coming Down

"you always say goodnight" and "everything" by the juliana theory are really depressing.. especially the first one.
it manages to get me in tears at times.. know it might sound crazy-(but probably I am)

but anyways thx for all the good songs, it's amazing how much is out there..

and there is a reason why more and more groups are making more and more sad songs...everything's falling to pieces...

very true, very true indeed.....

i love Tool and A Perfect Cirlce, Maynard Keenan just has a way of making the most beautiful yet depressing and angst-driven music....

also, if u want depressing, go listen to some old Nirvana......and Staind - Dysfunction is a pretty sad album too....Deftones' Around the Fur or White Pony albums are not exactly depressing, but they will definitely put you into a trance.....

Also Type O Negative. But if you're really looking for REALLY, REALLY dark and depressing, then try My Dying Bride - The Angel and the Dark River. It is different though, so I can't promise you'll like it!

I try to listen to upbeat music when I am depressed. Is it healthy to listen to music that even makes you more depressed?

Suffer Little Children - The Smiths. It's about the Moor's Murders so that's pretty depressing.

She's Lost Control - Joy Division. Dark song by a very dark group.

Oops... I stand corrected. Like I said, it was a few years ago that I saw the interview... put it down to too many late nights lately, okay?

I've only seen the clip of love will tear us apart. Ian was so into singing it that his eyes were rolling back in his head most of the time... that was enough to last me a lifetime. I got into happier stuff from that time on.

Anyways, thanks for setting me straight, folks.

Oh yeah.. Bowie! When the wind blows. The video would depress even the most determined optimist...

Smile empty soul - Silhouttes

although the group is new this song is very good. >The singer is another one of the many that had familiar problems...

Since :

" silhouettes above the cradle hold me down
they won't let me go the wrong way
my mother taught me all the fables, told me how
in the end all the sinners have to pay
but...

i don't wanna live like my mother
i don't wanna let fear rule my life
and i don't wanna live like my father
i don't wanna give up before i die

he worked so hard his bones are breaking
he wore them down but long ago he lost the feeling
his good intentions leave me shaking, show me how
i don't ever want to end up like he did
and...

[chorus]

when i have kids
i won't put any chains on their wrists, i won't
i'll tell them this
there's nothing in this world that you can't be if you want it enough"

very nice lyrics I think...
