Sure the speeds weren't all that great, but most of the time there was still plenty of seeders on all of the torrents, plus it had THE MOST diverse selection of content. Name me another site that compiles all that variety into one, because I sure as hell have never found it.

Demonoid had a nice selection of torrents for every taste. As for me, I liked their selection of rare classical movies, some of which was unavailable anywhere else, afaik. I'm sure there are quite a few non newbies out the that will miss it.

No site is a joke, regardless of what an individual thinks.

Each site requires resources and humans to run it, and then on top of that, they need uploaders to populate the browse list.

The sheer effort of keeping such places running should facilitate a little more respect from people who only have an interest in what they can grab, without thought to the people who place it there in the first place.

After all, if it wasn't for places like ET, SuprNova, Loki, OiNK and Demonoid taking the fall, there would be far fewer places to share these days. Someone has to take the heat, so applaud these places for taking the heat, in the name of free distribution.

I don't particularly miss it, but they had an excellent PSXPSP collection. and it wasn't that big of a deal when they blocked Canadian traffic, all you had to do was use a proxy :)

People get a clue. Public trackers albeit have a wide variety of files and seeders, but are definitely not the safest out there.

Thats all you have to do is get into 3 or 4 very good private trackers. Thats all you will ever need.

Any file that was on demonoid can be requested at any DECENT private tracker and it will get filled. No reason to resort to public trackers...

Have faith, they always come back. Demonoid probably had the most variety of torrents out there. On most occasions if they didnt have it noone would have it. As for canadians i'm canadian and there is ways to get around the block. Also for the one who got a nasty letter when they downloaded off for demonoid you need to pay attention to if its there tracker or an external one. One of the worst external ones that are on there is pirate bay. I got a nasty letter from them but no biggie, im canadian they dont bother us too much :)
But either way Don't give up. They always find a way to come back. Hoepefully it will be soon.

Demonoid moved there servers from Sweeden to Canada earlier this year. They then got caught up with the CRIA (the canadian equilant to the RIAA) they(Demonoid) block all Canadian members from accessing site thinking the CRIA would back off.
As everyone knows using a proxy server Canadians still could access site. Obviously so could the CRIA.

So CRIA went after the Hosting site that had the the demonod servers.
If the trackers are still up, all demoniod need to do is find a new server for the site as trackers can still remain in Canada.

Pirate Bay is at at reach by threats or legal action, or neither is there hosting servers,and that is what pisses off both the CRIA,RRIA,Microsoft, and about 15000 other organizations.

I hope demonoid will be back. Just move to Russia, Cayman Islands, or Africa, cheap servers in Iran as well.

Since TPB is hosted in Sweden, and hosting .torrent files is legal there(since they contain no copyrighted material, only a hash), it means the site can't be taken down. You can see http://thepiratebay.org/legal for some funny responses to takedown notices that also explain a bit better.

Demonoid is like a Google equivalent for Torrents. You can get all sorts of Torrents there.

Few months back I was really taken aback knowing that Demonoid moved from Sweden to Canada. All these profit seeking organizations like RIA are basically US patron and Swedes really have the guts to tell them "back off". They could never make the rules changed according to their whims. Tried once to raid the PB but people came on street and Govt backed off. TPB was back on line in no time.

I also hope the the Green Devil will be back soon.

Well, aside from the fact that Demonoid had several open signup periods, the tracker itself has always been publicly accessible. Many indexed torrents on public search engines/indexes like torrentspy/mininova/etc list demonoid torrents as well.

Ah yes, that's true. I remember seeing Demangoid listed in some other torrents. Why would they require registration to use their site but stay public? I'm not sure how all this works. I've only used public ones that do not require registration.
