Thanks for the warning, though I don't see anything about it destroying the hard drive on the Snopes assesment.

According to Snopes it leads to servers hosting malware which would be installed on your system. Including software to hijack your computer, to use as attacker bots. Kind of pointless if you want to use that PC, then destroy it's hard drive.

Snopes also gives entirely different advice on how to deal with the situation. Not by deleting the message instantly.

The thing you have posted looks awfully like a hoax, based on a real threat.

virus cant be so fast that can do something in a matter 0.01 sec on hitting reset button, it m8 do something on bootup.
but again on vista its hard to do it if UAC is on, infact aren't those sectors readonly when in use? one cant even scan boot sectors when windows is on.

Yup, basically what you said earlier, the content of the original post is based on a hoax virus while linking to a page about another real virus.

It's a joke to get people to delete those stupid virtual postcard emails that people send.

Not quite, but good call anyway.

It's more to do with manipulating the hard of thinking and getting them to react in a hysterical way.

Better still. A mod can just delete the thread as it does not serve the purpose for which it was intended.:)

BawA

or title it as Hoax: and move it to some other section so some noobs dont panic once they get the news.

i dont think it should be deleted, it's an important lesson for those gullible enough to be taken in by virus hoax emails.

That's actually a good point.

I've seen two at work this week, both as obvious as this crap and both forwarded to hundreds of people. Who no doubt forwarded it to loads of other cretins ... and on and on.

It's actually getting as bad as spam now and could be solved by people just doing a bit of thinking.

Here's your first clue, there's normally loads of exclamation marks.

Here's your second, it tells you to forward it to everyone you know.

Here's your third, it claims not to be spam.

Here's your fourth, it claims to be verified by either MS, or Symantec or Macafee or somesuch authority.

This one is particularly stupid tho', when it said your boot sector was going to be fecked, your hard drive irreparably damaged and they would take over your computer. Well if you bothered to read the material in the linked site.
