Well if bittorrent got shut down,we can always go back in time. Like what we did before bT came along. And there are tonns of options. Everything from newsgroups to irc. If they manage to shut it down there will always come something new along.
I still remember the day Napster starting getting powned by RIAA, It was almost the end of the world, No one uses Napster anymore, but all of us still download music..So there will always come new ways for people to p2p.

As for me, i would prolly go back to FTP´s.
Its seems abit easier now as well, with scrips doing everything for you.

no protocol can die, only the methods can.
BT is not a method its an internet protocol, just like original p2p networks, they couldnt be killed only the application installed over them can be killed.
anyway newsgroup is the way to go, am already using it on BT side for large files. its headache free but again you may go seed same files over trackers :frusty:

IRC, Newsgroups, and maybe a private dc++ hub or 2.
I still use the first two now, but BT gets the bulk of my attn. I really like the community feel, you just dont find that elsewhere IMO.

The great thing about file sharing is that with so many options out there taking down one just forces another to grow and progress.

I agree; I wouldn't do anything until a new protocal becomes the de facto standard for warez.
Going back to limewire, kazza or emule just isn't going to happen.

I'd do rapidshare, or maybe even newsgroups

Herrick
11-12-2007, 03:18 AM
Although the newsgroup thing intrigues Herrick greatly, I can't see myself paying for something I can get for free. Sure, I have to wait 12 hours or so to get the latest game, but at least I'm not paying for it. I'm not sure what I'd do if BT were no more. Lots of you mangs mention Rapidshare. Is that good for really huuuuge files like new PC Games?

Newsgroups is by far the superior option between the two. Using AltBinz and Newzbin I have 100+ days of content to download* and 200+ days with Giganews, all at max speeds which downloads, fixes, and extracts itself.

* As an example, Newzbin provides approximately 120,000+ posts of content** whilst the average on my private trackers is maybe about 10,000.

** That's new and old content. At max speed. All the time. With no need to upload.

There's no contest really.

Many people have free newsgroup access with their ISP as well and don't pay anything.

I searched on this forum and apparently, my ISP's news server is very crappy for downloads, so I'd probably have to pay for a good one. I'm sure these news groups are great if one download's a lot but I only download a couple of games and some songs a month.

Back to IRC and private ftp's for me. Maybe a nice DC++ hub. Newsgroups is always a good option, even with BitTorrent. Giganews is amazing. Point is, the world wouldn't end ;)

I would curl up in the fetal position and cry. Filesharing sucked before BT, in my opinion at least (and I started filesharing with napster back in '98). DCPP is ok though I guess, and certainly more secure.

True pirates will never die. :) When one falls there will always be another to take his place.

Having NO internets at all would certainly cause me to shrivel up and die. Having no bittorrent sites... well, I'd probably shed a few tears and then turn to rapidshare/soulseek.

I'd go back to rapidshare and megaupload, and pray that those sites that went down would at least make a forum and chat room to still interact with.

I dont really think bt will ever die.

man2069us
11-13-2007, 06:21 AM
Well. I really don't think its possible for BT to completely die. It is only a protocol and has no centralised server. Even if they kept on taking down sites and servers, they can't stop more from coming up. And they can't possibly track all the thousands of trackers.

So the worst that can happen is the big sites go down and we're all dependent on the private ones.

arkiebrian
