please remove this ASAP
Why? Are you trying hack someones account?
If JP can deal with it without complaining, anyone can.

I agree. There must be another way to prevent the problem. e.g. allow a certain maxLoginAttempts from a unique IP

why :noes: would anyone want to hack someones account here? besides you cant implement such a task to all users because of one or 2 incidents (just assuming:dabs:)

"Why" is beside the point.
Fact is, it happens more than you know.

it the users fault for not using a secur pass word..
ie: (axEWC>;[.pD42r) is secure ............try a secure pass brute force only works for stupid ass common names passes
this login check is annoying for people who keep their pc secure. i delete my cookies daily if not more often. who the hell would waste there time with a brute force on this site??? is there a secret vip section??? if someone is stupid enough to choose a common password then they deserve an attack on intelligence

it happens more then i know?? how would u know anyways:wacko:? wtf? if i may question ur sources
u have logs of the login attempts>?
Most times the accounts aren't breached, but after 5 failed attempts, the account is locked and an email is sent to the registered email. Members see the email and make either make a thread about it, make a report, or PM us.
The attempts to access accounts happens a lot.
Just one example - http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-everything-related-board-9/t-someone-tried-log-into-my-account-180459

I agree with you 100% but you completely missed the point.
AFAIK, nobody's account was ever accessed by the 'hacker'.
The annoyance was that it gueses each user's pass more than 5 times triggering an email alerting of possible hacking attempts on the user's account.
A user would get 5+ emails per night, until I added the CAPTCHA system to log in.
This was months ago (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-everything-related-board-9/t-hacking-220242); a few weeks ago (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-everything-related-board-9/t-what-this-243295) I even tried removing it and the problem returned, so captcha was put back.

There were enough accounts that were accessed also...

Isn't it possible to use another CAPTCHA system? This one makes it very hard at times to distinguish between upper and lower case (at least I think that's why I have a hard time logging in at times)

nah, he deletes cookies so his parents wouldn't know what porn sites he's been visiting. not really a reason security should be lowered.

Scrambled abusive clueless nubcakes FTL.
I've had some dip-shit attempt to hack into my account dozens of times and I think it should stay. While I use an insanely secure password it's clear that not everyone does, plus it just pisses me off when they try it. A little inconvenience is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

The system isn't case sensitive.

that is one nice thing about it :fst::sick:

Some of the CAPTCHAs are very hard to read. My vision isn't all that great now a days. I've seen it where there is an option for the letters/numbers to be read off vocally. Is that an option in this system?

If it is hard to read then turn your resolution down on your monitor or use Microsoft Magnifier until they make it vocal, if FST does.

It's some of the patterns that throw me off, I'm color blind.
It's not all the patterns either. I'd say a vocal option would be nice... but it not all well. I'll just refresh the image until I get one that's clear enough to read.

well i think recaptcha (http://recaptcha.net/learnmore.html) has an audio option, and there is a vbulletin addon (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=151824). never saw it in action, but it sure sounds worthy looking into it :)

It looks like ReCAPTCHA has the letters in black and white, too. Good news for you, Broken.

i dont really like the visual check, cause i can never tell if they spell it with a capital or something, you should do words or numbers, that way we can tell

I had to login a couple of times over the weekend, as I was away from home/work.
The captcha was no problem at all :dabs:
I always do a Visual Security Check before i sign into any woman.
