There are several different GForce Fx5200 made by different manufacturers.. but what i want to know is.. is there any difference in performance and etc..? and if not, why are the prices all different?

some offer different things for instance some will have digital video outputs (to support lcd monitors) or tv out etc.
Also there is the 5200 and the 5200 Ultra and there is quite a big performance difference between them, i think its either to do with no. of pipelines or Bus frequency (i can't remember which)
But if u get 2 identical cards (in terms of features offered and in terms of memory, bus frequency) then there should be negligible performance difference between them, geforce and ati both monitor manufacturers closely so that they don't get a bad reputation

You can save a lot of money on those things by finding them on Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com) .

I got a Chaintech Geforce FX 5200 for $63. ;)

I think the 2400 only has a 266 front side bus, u should try and get a 2600 XP thoroughbred or a 2500 XP Barton (both with 333 Mhz Front side bus).

About hte prices, I'm not from america so i'm not sure, but i think u should be able to get a bit cheaper than that if u shop around. (tho probably not too much). I'm sure there are sites on the internet where u can compare prices, but i don't know any american ones

Edit: Apart from the processor, thats some very nice kit ;)

Buy ordering online, you'll save yourself almost 100 bucks, thus allowing you to get a better video card. Good setup, although I think you should go for the TI4200 instead of the FX 5200. ;)

I don't reckon as much as 100bucks, more like 30-50

With the setup he's got there, he'll save $103 by ordering on Pricewatch, shipping included! :)

wow, thats quite a drop in price, r u sure all the parts are identical? (eg the motherboard is the 400MHz version not the older 333MHz)

Or u could save some money on the motherboard and get a Soltek SL-KT600-R "Purple Ray" (Socket A) Motherboard (MB-007-ST) which is a good deal cheaper and u don't lose much (just the lan cards), u should be able to get it for $100.

Well if the online thing is true or u decide on a cheaper motherboard u can afford the 2600 ;)

If you're concerned about online retailers checkout Resellerratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com) and see what others have experienced.

Frankly I have yet to experience any problems when using both Pricewatch.com and Resellerratings.com in making buying decisions.

The asus A7N8x deluxe mobo is excellent I've got the earlier 333MHz bus version & its very sweet. The rest is pretty standard (I've already recommended the upgraded processor) apart from the graphics card. The graphics card is probably the hardest single part to choose. How much gaming do u do? How did u pick the 5200? Have u looked at the benchmarks and reviews at http://www.tomshardware.com ? Theres a buyers guide from toms hardware here (http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030714/index.html)

Edit: brb.. so ill be afk atm

OK...the diff cards like 5200,5600,and 5900 have different CORES..i do believe. The 5200, built for office ussage more, like doing basic stuff like WATCH MOVIES...but is also good for gaming! The 5600 is going to be the best for all around best price and performance..IF you game. See graphics cards have GPU which is a GRAPHICS PROCCESING UNIT...basicly like you AMD or P4...it just runs the graphics...so the faster the chip the better the graphics...now the 5900 is going to be EXSPENSIVE and have INCREADIBLE gaming! The 5900 ULTRA is going to have faster clock speeds and be better for EXSTREME gaming...I do some gaming and stuff..i would go with the 5200 for a good price...and right now www.tigerdirect.com is having good sells on GeForce 4s...but i know its kool to say you have a GeForce FX lol Hope this helped ...i would go with intel..but if your short on cash..like me cuz im a kid also...amd is good

For anyone who is strapped for cash or is jealous about anyone having a Ge force FX can I just remind everyone that although it sounds good the FX 5200 only has a marginly better benchmark score than the Ti 4200 which is going for nuthin now!. So for gaming anything from the old Ge force 4 range would still give good performance.

ILW...he asked what the diff was...thats the ORIGINAL question..and i know people started takling about if his system was good or if it was a good buy..i was just going into detail about the original question...im not trying to start a fight though..just proving my point lol..i respect neone with over 500 post lol ;)

Edit: Hey ILW sorry bout that..i just read the topic title i guess....i didnt see it was JUST about the 5200 ..but o well...its a bit of good info for a noob lol

Not a good idea, as the GF4 Ti4200 isn't compliant with the latest DirectX standards.

It'll be a dinosaur soon.

I have an FX5200 and it's lovely. UT2003 looks incredible.
