Java Help

I run java on my computer, but my computer goes really slow when i play a game, and have a big AI program running at the same time... does anybody know of a program that does the same thing as Java, but doesn't log down my computer?

A few more details would help to find an answer. Type of processor,memory and OS would be a factor, as well as what programs are running.
I really doubt that just having Java installed would have any effect on playing games.(except Java games of course :rolleyes: )

well my specs are.

256mb ram
win XP
Pentium 4 1.7 ghz prcessor

and i have no other programs other than the big AI program which is Chessmaster 9000
