HELP

I downloaded a dvd cover and it turned out to be a png file whatever that is.
i cant delete it and its screwing up my computer, how do i get rid? :x

.png is an image file but more recently it has become a favourite delivery vehicle for viruses. Don't download or open .png or .scr files unless they are from a certified site.

un an online virusscan, all good av progs have one..

They also provide the info on the removing of viri

Reboot in safe-mode and delete it.

Otherwise use a win98 bootdisk to boot into DOS and delete it from there.

You sure about that? I googled for "png virus" and couldn't find any information. I'm very skeptical of the possibility that an image file, which never gets executed, could actually be and spread a virus without the help of another program specifically designed to read the image and execute any code that might have been inserted into it.

Which means tommo68 may have already had a virus before this...

.jpeg and .png files arrive in my mail regularly, sometimes along with .scr and/or batch file attachments, all with the familiar subject line > re: or, check this out:

I don't know how they execute but they do. Norton Corp quarantines them or denies access every time.

I'd love to find how in the blue hell that would work. Damn script kiddies get smarter every year.
