Right now I'm using Peer Guardian 2.

Is there anything better or something that I should use in conjunction with it?

The title of this thread and that post kind of don't fit together unless you take into account a slight leap of implicit associations.

However, moving past that, software-wise, I'd say that it can't hurt to use another firewall, maybe a rule-based one, in addition to pg2, which uses lists. But I'm sure you know that.

If you want to play it really safe, you could always download via proxy, which can be more or less tricky depending on the app that does the actual downloads. Also, different p2p apps and networks differ in how secure they are, but again, I'm sure that's not what you are after.

Utorrent has a built in ip filter, the tracker you using may be offering an ip filter definition file you can download it to utorrent installation directory and enable ipfilter in advanced option

Turn on some connection encryptions, utorrent and especially azureus have that options.

safest way to download is to use a proper proxy setup and make sure that the proxy isn't paid for under your name so there is no way to trace data back to you.

but isnt it true that private trackers dont allow proxies.

Also do the private trackers give the ip-filter definition lists?

I didn't know they were able to tell whether or not you are on a proxy.
