Can anyone really explain the offside rule to someone who doesn't watch football (soccer)

OFFSIDE With certain exceptions, a player in an offside position becomes offside if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by a teammate, the player, in the opinion of the referee, is involved in active play by:

Interfering with play, or
Interfering with an opponent, or
Gaining an advantage by being in that offside position.

Ok I edited this :)

Tell me you wrote that yourself, even if it isn't true.

A girl could understand that.

If a player grabs the buttocks of and kisses the mouth of and tears the jersey from the back of a player on his own team after such player has scored a GOOOOOOOOOAL !!!......THAT is offside ! :P

no-one has actually said what an "offside position" actually is. check this link out

Offside Rule (http://www.burtrandworld.co.uk/offside-rule.php)

it has ickle diagrams for the uninitiated.

A more in depth view of offside can be found here Alternative Website (http://www.gccentennialsoccer.org/cllaws/cllaw11.htm)

Another alternative would be to download the "Laws of the Game" pdf file from the FIFA website, and get the good straight from the horses mouth so to speak.

FIFA - Fancy Institute of Football Actors (http://www.fifa.com/en/game/laws.html) (or something like that :P )

PS - it's actually Fédération Internationale de Football Association incase some people don't get a little bit of sarcasm.

Don't worry, I'm being ironic.
