Best Public Tracker?

I'm a member of a lot of private torrent sites, and I shudder when thinking about the days before private trackers, where I would have a leave my computer on all night to download the latest episodes of 24, and 50 Kb/s was stuff of legend. But, sometimes, a private tracker just doesn't have what you need.

Take, for example, my quest to find the early season 2 episodes of Brothers and Sisters. I'm sure, when the full season has aired, it will be easy to find a pack and download the episodes there, but coming in the show late into the season has it's troubles. Every one of my private trackers has the later episodes, but I can't find episodes 1-4 anywhere.

I guess that's the problem with private trackers. Everyone downloads the stuff so quickly, and seeds for a few weeks, but after a while only a handful of people download the stuff, the seeding stops, the torrents get removed, and us slower than the rest suffer.

That's where public trackers come in handy. They never leave us out cold. I checked Mininova, and they have all the episodes! In fact, I think they still have everything that was ever put on there. The speed isn't the best, and it still says it will take a day or so. They even have the 1st and only season of the excellent Jack and Bobby. Sure, it will probably take weeks and weeks to download, but for us without BitMeTV it's our only option

So, which public tracker would you say was the best? I'm getting decent speeds from Mininova, and the selection seems quite good. I hate torrenyspy though. It's just so... messy. I used to get everything off Suprnova.org, but I haven't used it at all since it's been back.

For me BTJunkie has never let me down, most stuff on there, (even old) and good seeder to leecher ratio

i tend to use mininova, especially for the eztv section and axxo releases, its not bad, just takes longer to download

The Pirate Bay has pretty much everything you'll ever need, although speeds tend to be quite low.

The Pirate Bay is way too slow for my liking, even for a public tracker. Is BTJunkie just a combination of all the other public trackers?

Fully agree with that - fantastic little application! No need to search through all the sites!

Just wish there was something similar that searched through all the private sites as well, would save loads of time!

I speeds on most of them are pretty terrible though. This episode of brothers and sisters has been downloading all night, but it's still at speed 1.5kb/s, and it doesn't look like it's going to improve soon. Wasn't demonoid sign up?

demonoid has been down for a while now. 2-3 weeks maybe?

The episode I was downloading shot up to 450kb/s in the last few minutes! I've never gotten that speed from a public tracker before! I've never even gotten above 50kb/s! Sadly, the next episode is taking even long than the last!

It has almost everything, it's stable and it isn't overflowing with ads.
