Lou Reed(known as the godfather of punk) influenced...

The New York Dolls who in turn influenced...

The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, et al.

The sex pistols were punk pop idol of 1976, created by a great piece of marketing by malcolm maclaron.Musically, they were very poor but it was produced very well,
and they had the that punk look designed by maclaren and his girlfriend. But did you know that the first punk band to release a 7" single and to tour the states was not the Pistols but The Damned.Check them out 'cos they've got 27 years of back catalouge to listen to.i'm not suggesting you buy it of course.

The Damned's first single was New Rose and are still touring today in the UK and the States. They've have loads of line up changes over the years and now have Captain Sensible back on guitar(played bass in '76).Try to avoid some of the late 1980's stuff 'cos they went a bit dark/pop that we call Goth in the UK.

Bigwig, Too good for words.

NOFX, Didn't 'invent' punk, but they were The definition of punk in the 80's, and then they stayed underground for a long time. However.. they havent gone to MTV and shit, theyre way too popular.

AFI, was great in the 80's and up until Art of Drowning, But their statements of, were not punk and we never were (that i have heard theyve said...) is untrue. Starting a band for something to do inbetween skate sessions isnt punk? playing fast hardcore music with pretty much all powerchords isnt punk? Having songs about mowhawks and sarcastic songs of 'i wanna be a highschool football hero' isnt punk? Tell me what is.

Frenzal Rhomb, aussie band, as punk as it gets. Go to punkhardcore.com and read some interviews with them, youll know they are punk. Their music is raw fast and great, however their latest album is lacking...

Pinhead Gunpowder, oh man. Billie Joe from Green day's other band that just got together once or twice a year to just play and make an album for the love of music. If you havent heard of them, download some songs. They are like a hardcore awesome punk version of green day.

speaking of which, Green Day, until insomniac. 39/smooth, kerplunk, dookie, and insmoniac rank as some o my fav albums of all, but after that they just had like 1 or 2 ok songs from each album and then decreased to none and just went pop punk.
