Well ya know if you had any common sense you would know that software firewalls can not nearly compete with hardware based firewalls (routers). Or maybe your just too indigent (broke) to afford one.

Thats not always true. If you have a fairly low budget or cheap router then most of them will come with software.

A "real' router does not need software to operate efiiciently because its hardware based configuration is built in. Most good routers dont even need drivers.

Cisco routers are a perfect example of those types however there are many more like those.

A good router is one that will run on any o.s. If you go and buy a 1oo dollar router and it has system requirments or it gives you software that has to be installed on only windows based o.s. then the router is a piece of crap, unless you dont need the software in order for it to run.

My router would be the type that any business or serious network user like myself would use, packet filtering, port opening and closing, stealth, ect. can be configured through telnet or web based configuration. Either way no software is required. :)

i would normally say sygate but over the last few weeks i have been trying Kerio personal firewall and so far i am quite pleased with it so i would have to say try kerio

Also in your question you asked

can someone tell me witch firewalli is the best

shn then replyed by saying a router, you then start taking a fit because he said router well the fact is if you were more clear in the origonal question about what type of firewall you were looking for there would be no trouble.

Although I'm not sure whether or not to consider it the best, Zone Alarm Pro 4 is a pretty good software firewall. But IMHO the best defense is a software firewall and a good router. Software routers are easier to configure for dumbasses like me.

Speaking of which, I just edited the PeerGuardian blocklist xml data that can be imported into ZAP4. They already had it posted on methlabs, but I changed it from general blocked IP ranges into a group of ranges in the expert rules section (and there were some small errors in the data they posted). Makes it cleaner and easier to manipulate, at least for me. And it will also alert you when one of them is blocked (specifically). If anyone wants it, let me know.
