12 monkeys, The Elephant Man, Being John Malcovitch (SP?), and DEFINITLY Adaptation are all on my list. I've rented Brazil 3 times but never had time to watch it.

I've added Brazil, Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet to my 'gotta see' list. I am also thinking about going out and buying the DVD set of Twin Peaks. I haven't seen a single episode of it, my brother was obsessed for a while there, I am very curious.

Mulholland Drive is David Lynch also, if you haven't seen it, check it out. If you don't get it, don't worry, neither did I. You can watch it a second time and hope you catch on, or just go read enough reviews and you'll understand.

Not to sound too mainstream, but I thought Fight Club had it's fair share of bizarre twists........although it may hit home with a few to many from NY, NY.

And If you haven't seen Dr. Strangelove, SEE IT!! Magnificently strange, as is EVERYTHING Kubrick has done....

btw, cudos to all those who truly appreciated the movie Adaptation! Too many have overlooked this film....

I will say that the most weird and strange one on these lists so far has to be

VIDEODROME weird as shit!!!!
but it's also made by David Cronenberg who made eXistenZ, Spider, Dead Ringers, Scanners, Crash (about a group of people who like having car accidents in an almost sexual way, has James Spader), Nightbreed, Rabid, The Fly, and Dead Zone.

So David Cronenberg also gets the WEIRD ASS DIRECTOR AWARD!!!

Assault Sniper, I'm forced to agree about Brazil.
Interestingly, on release it had all the hallmarks of an Alan Smithee film.
When Gilliam tried to release the full movie in American theatres it was butchered by the censors. The ending, which I consider essential (I won't spoil it) was changed to a somewhat happier conclusion.
Gilliam took out full page ads in The New York Times asking when his movie would be released.
The climax of events was Gilliam et al locking the doors of a New York cinema until the director's full vision was shown.

First off, I just watched a movie called Bug. It starts with a kid squishing a bug which causes a huge chain of reactions between a bunch of strangers. Very good movie.

@Barky: I rented Jacob's ladder.

@is_this_name... : UHF and Monty Python are GREAT movies, but I don't think they fit the list. The same goes for Best of Show, and This is Spinal Tap. They are original, but not the type of original that I'm looking for....I don't really know how to explain it.

I have also added 'Run Lola, Run' to the list. If you liked 'Amelie', try 'Run Lola, Run' ;)

Dadan has a sister, Afrodita, that he desperately wants to see get married so they strike a deal: Zare is to marry her. If you want TRUE hardcore , wierd, underground, depressing films go get all of Richard Kerns films. Start from there and learn of others of the same kind.

To those who mentioned CABIN FEVER you have obviously never seen a good movie. That had to be thee most horrible film I have ever seen. The advertising is the only reason It sounded so good. I gaurantee that they spent more money on advertising then they did on making it wich isnt even why I hated it. Some of my favorite movies of all time were made with a couple thousand dollars "EVIL DEAD 1 and 2" for example.

For those who mention Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Cheers to you! That is on my top ten list. Go get "WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM" if you havent already. If you Love FEAR AND LOATHING then it is a must see because it is the original version. Staring Bill Muray and ofcourse the dad from everybody loves Raymond plays the part of the attorney, LOL, made back in the late 70s. It is a must.
